Christophe Beghin - Spirou BasketThe Belgian League regular season ended Saturday as Basket Bree hung on for first place and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs despite losing 67-72 at second place Spirou Basket Charleroi. Both teams finish with 27-9 records, but Bree is first on a tiebreaker. Charleroi would have needed to win by more than 20 to overtake Bree for the top spot. On Saturday, Charleroi outscored Bree 5-18 in the first period and led big most of the way. The visitors were ahead by double digits in the closing minutes before Bree scored the last 6 points of the game. Jerry Johnson led Charleroi with 15 points, Tremmell Darden added 13 and Wes Wilkinson posted 11 points and 9 rebounds for Spirou. Ronnie McCollum paced Bree with 26. Oostende ended the regular season on a down note, losing 99-74 to Generali Okapi Aalstar. Trevor Huffman paced Aalstar with 20, while Oostende got 18 from Chris McCray, 12 from Chuck Davis and 11 from Jerry Green. In other games, Dexia Mons-Hainaut slammed Spotter Leuven 99-69 as George Evans scored 22 off the bench, VOO Verviers-Pepinster beat Antwerp Diamond Giants 83-77 thanks to 24 points from Earnest Shelton and last paced Optima Gent beat Belgacom Liege Basket 81-94 on the road behind James Miler's 29 points.
