Panathinaikos escaped once again from Hellenikon Olympic Hall with a hard-earned victory, 76-80, over Panionios, to take a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five Greek League semifinals. Mike Batiste posted 16 points for the defending champs, who now head home for a chance at a sweep on Thursday. Meanwhile Maroussi beat Olympiacos at home 97-90 in overtime and tied that series at 1-1. Branko Milisavlievic scored 18 points and dished 5 assists for Maroussi. Lynn Greer's 31 points were not enough for the Reds.
At Hellenikon Olympic Hall, Panionios led for 35 minutes, but Panathinaikos thanks to its quality and experience, managed to get the victory, 76-80. Led by Lony Baxter, the hosts were 13 points ahead, but the Greens found their defensive spirit, took their very first lead, 67-69, midway through the fourth quarter and got the victory. Mike Batiste recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Dimitris Diamantidis posted 12 points, 9 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals, Sarunas Jasikevicius had 12 points and 6 assists, Vassilis Spanoulis added 11 points and Kostas Tsartsaris scored 10. Baxter paced Panionios with 23 points and 10 boards. Ivan Zoroski sank 14 points and Brad Newley and Giannis Kalampokis scored 10 apiece.
At Aghios Thomas Hall, Maroussi beat Olympiacos at home 97-90 in overtime and tied that series at 1-1. Olympiacos was ahead 16-25 at the end of the first period, but the hosts took advantage of the defensive weaknesses of their opponents and scored easily. Maroussi led 66-60 after 30 minutes of play, however Olympiacos reacted and with 48 seconds to go, Lynn Greer scored 2 free throws to put the visitors up 76-79. Branko Milisavlievic responded with a big three and tied the match at 79-79. Greer added another pair of free throws, before Nikos Boudouris scored from the line to force overtime at 81-81. At that point, Maroussi took control and tied the series, 97-90. For Maroussi, Milisavlievic bagged 18 points and dished 5 assists, Kostas Kaimakoglou posted 17 points and grabbed 6 boards, Jarod Stevenson nailed 15 points, Kostas Haralabidis had 14 points and 5 assists and Travon Bryant added 10 points. For Olympiacos, Lynn Greer scored 31 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished 7 assists and made 3 steals. Giorgos Printezis posted 12 points and Qyntel Woods added 10.
