Turkish League, Playoffs, Quarterfinals Game 4: May 11-12, 2008
Kerem Gonlum - Efes Pilsen Besiktas Cola Turka, Efes Pilsen and Fenerbahce Ulker joined Turk Telekom in the Turkish League semifinals by winning their respective best-of-five quarterfinals series 3-1. Besiktas downed Banvit 96-102 in Bandirma to make it to the next round. Kaya Peker led Besiktas with 21 points, Preston Shumpert had 20 while Predrag Drobnjak added 13. Efes Pilsen advanced to the semifinals by topping Pinar Karsiyaka 77-85 in Izmir on Monday. Kerem Gonlum paced the winners with a monster double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds. Serkan Erdogan added 11 points while Kenny Gregory had 10 for Efes. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce Ulker made it to the semifinals by edging Antalya BSB 78-85 on the road also on Monday. Damir Kaan paced the winners with 18 points. Terence Kinsey and Mirsad Turkcan each added 14 while Omer Asik posted a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds. The best-of-five semifinals will be Besiktas - Turk Telekom and Efes - Fenerbahce. Turk Telekom and Fenerbahce start their series with a 1-0 lead by winning both regular season games against Besiktas and Efes, respectively.

Efes Pilsen made it to the semifinals by topping Pinar Karsiyaka 77-85 in Izmir on Monday to win the best-of-five quarterfinal series 3-1. Kerem Gonlum paced the winners with a monster double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds. Erdogan added 11 points Gregory had 10 for Efes. Quinton Hosley led Karsiyaka with 25 points and 13 points, Asim Pars added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists while former Efes guard Baris Ermis had 18 points for the hosts. Efes opened the game with a 9-17 run while Scoonie Penn allowed his team to keep a 21-26 edge after 10 minutes. Dewarick Spencer soon helped Efes to boost its margin to 27-41 midway through the second quarter, as Gonlum kept dominating at both ends. Pars and Hosley brought Karsikaya within 44-54 at halftime. The hosts improved their defense after the break and tied the game, 61-61, late in the third quarter. Gonlum and Erdogan stepped up in the fourth quarter to make Efes get a 74-81 edge with 2 minutes to go, enough to seal the outcome down the stretch.

Besiktas Cola Turka became the first team to move into the semifinals by beating Banvit 96-102 in Bandirma. The visitors, who started the series with a 1-0 advantage for sweeping Banvit in the regular season, wrapped up the series 3-1 by winning the second game in Bandirma. Besiktas had Drobnjak and Peker inside and Rick Apodaca and Sinan Gular outside as it jumped ahead 21-30 after the first period. The visitors increased the lead to 15 points behind Sandro Nicevic and Shumpert and led 41-54 at halftime. Yunus Cankaya, Donnell Harvey and Joe Crispin worked well in the third period and Banvit managed to cut the gap to 68-71 by the end of the third period. Peker and Shumpert stood as a wall for Besiktas to stop Banvit from getting any closer in the last period as the visiting team held on to win the game 96-102. Peker led Besiktas with 21 points, Shumpert had 20 and Drobnjak added 13. Crispin led Banvit with 23 points, Harvey had 22 and Cankaya added 20.

Fenerbahce Ulker advanced to the semifinals by edging Antalya BSB 78-85 on the road also on Monday. Kaan paced the winners with 18 points. Kinsey and Turkcan each added 14, Asik posted a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds while Omer Onan also had 12 points for Fener. Marcus Douthit had 19 points for Antalya, Mehmet Gorken added 17, Jamon Lucas got 11 and Fikret Can Akin 10. Onan and Kinsey helped Fenerbahce to get an 11-16 lead early in the game, but Can Akin led an 8-2 run that allowed Antalya to get a slim 24-22 edge after 10 minutes. Asik and Turkcan started to dominate the defensive rebound and Fenerbahce soon regained the lead, 30-35. Antalya got within 38-39 at halftime and an outstanding Dothit allowed the hosts to regain a six-point lead, 48-42, midway through the third quarter. Kaan led a 3-14 run that put Fenerbahce back ahead, 51-56, late in this period. Antalya tied the game for the last time, 64-64, with 6 minutes to go. Asik and Kinsay fueled a 0-8 run that put Fener ahead for good. Even when Antalya got within 71-75, it was too little, too late for the hosts.
