German League, Playoffs, Game 1: May 14-15, 2008
Ricky Paulding - EWE Baskets OldenburgAlba Berlin was the big winner as the German League playoffs began, blasting Eisbaren Bremerhaven 105-65 in Game 1 of the quarterfinals. The top three teams from the regular season all registered Game 1 wins, while defending champion Brose Baskets Bamberg was edged 54-55 by Ricky Paulding and EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Branimir Longin made a clutch free throw with 3 seconds remaining and missed the second on purpose as time ran out to lift Oldenburg. In Berlin, Julius Jenkins scored 26 and Bobby Brown added 18 points and 5 assists as Alba cruised to an easy win. The Artland Dragons left it to the last period in beating Telekom Baskets Bonn 99-89 as Terrance Thomas came off the bench for 20 and Bayer Giants Leverkusen held on to beat the Deutsche Bank Skyliners 78-75 behind 19 points and 8 assists from Zack Whiting.

Julius Jenkins scored 26 and Bobby Brown added 18 points and 5 assists for the winners, who led only 25-21 after 10 minutes, but proceeded to outscore their opponents by 11, 14 and 13 points in the next three periods. Immanuel McElroy added 13, Aleksandar Nadjfeji had 11 and Philip Zwiener 10 for Berlin. Anthony Tolliver led Bremerhaven with 19. Bayer Giants Leverkusen used a 30-18 second period to take a 48-35 halftime lead against the Deutsche Bank Skyliners as it looked to be a second half for protocol only. However the Skyliners fought back and made the Giants work hard to win 78-75. Zack Whiting led Leverkusen with 19 points and 8 assists. Ransford Brempong added 16 points and 9 rebounds for Leverkusen. Pascal Roller scored 17 and Jimmy McKinney had 16 points and 9 boards for Frankfurt in the loss.

The Artland Dragons left it to the last period in beating Telekom Baskets Bonn 99-89 as Terrance Thomas came off the bench to lead six Artland scorers in double figures with 20 points. The Dragons went into the fourth quarter up 1, but an excellent shooting night ensured the win. Leon Rodgers scored 14, Chad Prewitt 13, Adam Chubb and EJ Rowland had 12 each and John Goldsberry 11 for Artland, Winsome Frazier paced Bonn with 26. Defending champion Brose Baskets Bamberg was edged 54-55 by Ricky Paulding and EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Branimir Longin made a clutch free throw with 3 seconds remaining and missed the second on purpose as time ran out to lift Oldenburg. Longin finished with 11 points, while Paulding posted 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals while playing all 40 minutes. Demond Greene and Dwayne Mitchell led Bamberg with 12 points apiece.
