Polish League Finals, Games 1-2: May 17-18, 2008

PGE Turow Zgorzelec won the first two games of the Polish League finals against defending champion Prokom Trefl Sopot and accordingly leads the best-of-seven series 2-0 with the series now headed to Sopot. Prokom had its chances in the first game after leading by as many as 14 points, but hosts came back and won 82-79 thanks to David Logan's lay-up with 6 seconds remaining. Logan led the winners with 26 points, Thomas Kelati and Robert Witka both added 12. The second game was under Turow's control from the beginning and finally Zgorzelec grabbed a comfortable 89-71 victory. Thomas Kelati led the way with 8-of-9 three-point shooting en route to 30 points. Meanwhile Asco Slask Wroclaw leads the best-of-three series for a bronze medal 1-0 following a 91-81 home decision over Polpak Swiecie.
On Saturday, Prokom had its chances after leading by as many as 14 points, but the hosts came back and won 82-79 thanks to David Logan's lay-up with 6 seconds remaining. Prokom ran out early in the second quarter and reached a double-digit advantage thanks to Jovo Stanojevic’a dominance underneath the baskets and 9 points. In the second half, the visitors continued to control the score until two of it point guards, Mustafa Shakur and Igor Milicic, fouled out within under two minutes. Prokom's problems in offense began and on the other side of the court Logan was unstoppable. Logan pushed his team ahead for good with 6 seconds remaining. With the scoreboard showing 80-79, Prokom had its last chance, but Donatas Slanina lost the ball and committed a flagrant foul. Andres Rodriguez hit 2 free throws to seal the victory for Turow. Logan led the winners with 26 points, Thomas Kelati and Robert Witka both added 12 and Rodriguez 10. Slanina had 17 for Prokom, Stanojevic 13 in just 11 minutes, Pape Sow 12 and Krzysztof Roszyk and Milan Gurovic both finished with 11. Prokom's point guards combined for 5 points, 4 assists and 3 turnovers.
The hosts dominated Game 2 from the beginning. In the second quarter, following a Kelati triple, Turow escaped for a double-digit lead and never looked back. Behind Turow's high-level defense, Kelati was the main factor of Turow's success. On his way to 30 points, he made 8 of 9 triples – at least three of them from unbelievable positions. Prokom was able to cut the deficit to 13 points coming into the last quarter, but the hosts responded with a 9-0 run on three consecutive triples and it was over. Logan helped Kelati with 18 points and 4 triples, while Witka added 12 points. Shakur led Prokom with 17 points, while Stanojevic and Sow both added 10. Prokom again won the battle on the boards, this time 19-30, but it wasn't enough when Slanina finished scoreless and fouled out in 9 minutes.
In the best-of-three series for a bronze medal, Asco Slask Wroclaw already without Rashid Atkins and Jared Homan, leads 1-0 following a 91-81 home decision over Polpak Swiecie. The hosts lead by 17 points after the first quarter and despites Polpak's comeback in the second quarter, they kept a safe advantage till the final buzzer. Andrius Giedraitis scored 18 points to lead Slask, Oliver Stevic added 16, Dominik Tomczyk 14 and Aivaras Kiausas 13, while Torrel Martin finished with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Bobby Dixon had 19 and Nikola Lepojevic 17 for Polpak.
