German League Playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 2: May 17-18, 2008
Sascha Nadjfeji - Alba Berlin Alba Berlin and EWE Baskets Oldenburg both won Sunday to take respective 2-0 leads in their best-of-five quarterfinals series, a day after Telekom Baskets Bonn topped Artland Dragons and the Deutsche Bank Skyliners beat Bayer Giants Leverkusen to even those series at 1-1. Alba Berlin moved with one win of the semifinals by beating Eisbaren Bremerhaven 78-83 in Game 2. Julius Jenkins scored 28 points and Sascha Nadjfeji had 25 points and 9 rebounds to lead the visitors, who can wrap up the series on Tuesday with a win at Max Schmeling Hall. Oldenburg stunned defending champion Brose Baskets Bamberg 64-63 thanks to a Ricky Paulding free throw with 10.7 seconds remaining. Bamberg's Darren Fenn missed twice from the line with 3.3 second left and a chance to win or tie the game. Jason Gardner paced Oldenburg with 18 points and 6 assists. On Saturday, Winsome Frazier scored 25 points to lead Telekom Bonn over Artland 86-82 to even that series at 1-1 and the Skyliners used big first and third periods to top Bayer Giants Leverkusen 74-66. Jimmy McKinney led Frankfurt with 20 points.

Alba Berlin moved with one win of the semifinals by beating Eisbaren Bremerhaven 78-83 in Game 2. Julius Jenkins scored 28 points and Sascha Nadjfeji had 25 points and 9 rebounds to lead the visitors. Jenkins scored 16 in an exciting first quarter at the end of which Berlin led 26-31. Bremerhaven took the lead by halftime, 49-45, behind Jan Lipke's three-point shooting. Anthony Tolliver helped Eisbaren build a double-digit lead in the third, but Nadjfeji made it 58-65 heading into the fourth quarter. Nadjfeji remained on fire and keyed a 2-11 lead as the visitors regained the lead. The game would go to the wire, but Jenkins and Goran Nikolic were a combined 4 for 4 from the line in the last 20 seconds to seal the win. Immanuel McElroy added 13 points and 9 rebounds for Berlin, which outrebounded the hosts 30-39 and committed only 8 turnovers. Tolliver paced Bremerhaven with 23 points and Brian Brown added 15.

EWE Baskets Oldenburg stunned defending champion Brose Baskets Bamberg 64-63 thanks to a Ricky Paulding free throw with 10.7 seconds remaining. It was an eventful game, as Jason Garden pushed the hosts to an early double-digit lead, which stood at 44-30 by halftime. But halftime did Bamberg good and the visitors came out with a renewed commitment to defense, holding the hosts scoreless for five minutes as they clawed their way back. Darren Fenn finally gave Bamberg a 48-49 lead and the third period ended 50-50. The game remained close throughout the fourth quarter, with Miladin Pekovic and Paulding giving Oldenburg a promising 63-59 lead. Bamberg came right back and tied it, but the closing seconds went to the hosts with Paulding's successful free throw and Fenn’s 2 misses from the line with 3.3 second left and a chance to win or tie the game. Gardner paced Oldenburg with 18 points and 6 assists and Pekovic added 12. Fenn led Bamberg with 16, Steffen Hamann had 14 and Tim Ohlbrecht posted 12 points and 9 rebounds in defeat.

On Saturday, Winsome Frazier led Telekom Baskets Bonn over Artland Dragons 86-82 to even the series at 1-1. Frazier recorded 25 points and 4 steals in the important home win. Bonn slowly pulled away throughout the second and third periods, with the lead reaching 75-59 early in the third quarter. However the Dragons then awoke and behind John Goldsberry and Chad Prewitt stormed back to within a single point (83-82). But with the game on the line, Frazier scored a rebound basket and later iced the win from the free-throw line. Eddie Basden added 20 points and John Bowler 11 for Bonn. Both also grabbed 7 rebounds. Goldsberry paced Artland with 19 points and 6 assists, Terrance Thomas scored 13, Prewitt and Leon Rodgers 11 each and Adam Chubb 10. The Deutsche Bank Skyliners used big first and third periods to top Bayer Giants Leverkusen 74-66. Jimmy McKinney led Frankfurt with 20 points, Derrick Allen added 15 and Pascal Roller and Koko Archibong had 14 each for the winners. Brant Bailey had 27 and Brendan Winters 18 for Leverkusen in defeat.
