Russian League Finals, Game 1: May 22, 2008
Matjaz Smodis - CSKA Moscow Euroleague champion CSKA Moscow took another step towards lifting the Russian crown once again by winning Game 1 of the best-of-five Russian League Finals on Thursday. CSKA beat Khimki 97-76 behind 26 points from Matjaz Smodis, who signed a contract extension with the club the day before. CSKA scored 33 points in the opening period to take a 15-point lead, which proved to be more than enough as Khimki never really threatened. The hosts committed only 5 turnovers, passed for 25 assists and outrebounded Khimki 31-20. David Andersen added 17 points for CSKA, Ramunas Siskauskas had 15, Trajan Langdon 14 and J.R. Holden scored 13 and dished 6 assists. Theo Papaloukas and Victor Khryapa also had 6 assists each. Clay Tucker scored 15 for Khimki, Pat Burke had 14 and Vladimir Veremeenko 13 in defeat.
