Azovmash Mariupol edged BC Kyiv 67-65 Thursday to take a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five Ukrainian League finals. Azovmash will have a chance to lift the title on Saturday when it hosts Game 4. Robert Archibald scored 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Azovmash, which used a 9-0 first-period run to take a 21-12 lead after 10 minutes. The hosts maintained the lead until halftime, when the scoreboard showed 43-33 for Azovmash. Just when it looked that Azovmash was going to stroll to victory, Kyiv stormed back, holding the hosts scoreless for nearly six minutes during which the visitors scored 12 unanswered points to cut the gap to 1. Kyiv would continue to roll, eventually taking the lead and pushing it to 56-60 on an Artur Drozdov triple. Azovmash reacted quickly and regained the lead thanks to Yahor Mesheriakau and Gerrod Henderson. In the final minute, Kyiv had its chances to go ahead or tie it, but Pooh Jeter missed twice from downtown. At the other end, Azovmash's Panagiotis Liadellis made just 1 of 4 free throws down the stretch allowing Kyiv one last chance, but Marko Maravic’s potential game-winner was blocked by Rodney Buford to ensure the win. Liadellis added 14 points and Mesheriakau 12 for the winners. Drozdov paced Kyiv with a game-high 24 and Jeter added 10.
