The Belgian League finals matchup is set after the top two teams from the regular season, Spirou Basket Charleroi and Basket Bree, both swept their semifinals series. Spirou dumped Dexia Mons-Hainaut 73-54 and Bree topped Generali Okapi Aalstar 85-79 in their respective Game 2s on Thursday. The finals will begin with Charleroi hosting Game 1 on Tuesday. Mons led 36-34 at halftime, but Spirou dominated the second half – including a 5-14 fourth quarter – to take the series. Jonathan Tabu led Charleroi with 14 points, Tremmell Darden added 12 and Andre Riddick and Jerry Johnson had 10 each for the winners. Ben Ebong led Mons with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Bree came from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Aalstar. Bree threatened to run away with the game early when a Doron Perkins triple made it 12-21 in the opening period, but 14 straight points from the home team put Aalstar on top. The hosts’ lead grew to 8 before settling at 42-37 at halftime. Bree tied the game at 46-46 in the third period only to see another run from Aalstar carry the hosts to a 9-point lead. But a pair of Nick Jacobson triples and another from Ronnie McCollum cut the gap to 60-58 heading into the fourth quarter. The drama grew throughout the fourth quarter, which featured seven lead changes. After a Damian Cantrell triple gave Aalstar its last lead at 75-73, Perkins and Michael Meeks his back-to-back triples in a 0-8 run and Perkins and Jacobson made their free throws in the end to ice the win. Perkins led the way for Bree with 23 points and 7 assists, McCollum added 17 points and Jacobson 16. Trevor Huffman led Aalstar with 19 points and 7 assists and Cantrell added 18.
