German League Playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 4: May 22-23, 2008

EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Telekom Baskets Bonn joined Alba Berlin in the German League semifinals by winning their respective quarterfinal series 3-1, while Bayer Giants Leverkusen and Deutsche Bank Skyliners will fight for the remaining spot in a do-or-die Game 5 on Saturday. EWE Baskets Oldenburg made it to the semifinals for the first time in club history by beating defending champion Brose Baskets 83-70 to win the best-of-five series 3-1. Rickey Paulding led the winners with 24 points. Jason Gardner added 22 while Miladin Pekovic had 12 for Oldenburg. Darrell Mitchell had 18 points for Brose, Darren Fenn added 13, Ademola Okulaja 11 and Robert Garrett 10. Oldenburg led 39-30 at halftime, but Mitchell and Fenn helped Brose to make it a two-point game, 45-43, late in the third quarter. Paulding and Gardner kept pacing Oldenburg to keep the hosts ahead, 59-53, with 8 minutes to go. A three-pointer by Pekovic gave Oldenburg a 67-59 with 4 minutes remaining, enough to control the game until the final buzzer and reach the semifinals. Telekom Baskets Bonn reached the semifinals for the first time since 2004 by thrashing the Artland Dragons 77-55 in Game 4 to win the best-of-five quarterfinal series 3-1. Edward Basden paced the winners with 19 points. Winsome Frazier added 16, John Bowler had 13 while Bernd Kruel got 10 for Bonn. Adam Chubb had 14 points for Artland while E.J. Rowland added 10. Bonn led 30-29 at halftime but boosted its margin up to 55-39 after 30 minutes to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. The Deutsche Bank Skyliners stayed alive in the quarterfinals by edging Bayer Giants Leverkusen 77-75 in Frankfurt on Thursday. Pascal Roller led the winners with 26 points. Ilian Evtimov added 24 while Derrick Allen had 10 for the Skyliners. Brendan Winters had 19 points for Leverkusen while Brant Bailey added 18 for the guests, that trailed 59-49 after 30 minutes but returned to the game in the fourth quarter. Evtimov and Roller sank important free throws to make the Skyliners win the game.
