Portuguese League Finals, Game 7: May 24, 2008
Graham Brown - Ovarense Aerosoles Ovarense Aerosoles is once again the Portuguese League champion! Ovarense lifted its third consecutive Portuguese League trophy by thrashing FC Porto Ferpinta 70-49 in do-or-die Game 7 to win the best-of-seven title game series 4-3, just as last season. Graham Brown paced the winners with 15 points and 11 rebounds. John Waller added 13 points while Gregory Stempin had 12 for Ovarense. Julian Terrell led Porto with 15 points and 18 rebounds, but nobody else in his team scored in double digits. Nuno Manarte and Miguel Miranda struck from downtown in a 9-0 run that gave Ovarense an early lead, 11-4. Stempin followed a basket with free throws to make it a double-digit game, 17-6. Porto got within 17-14 but back-to-back baskets by Cordell Henry and Stempin gave Ovarense a 21-14 lead after 10 minutes. A 7-0 run helped Ovarense to boost its margin to 28-14. Porto could not get Nuno Marcal and Frederick Gentry involved, while Joao Abreu and Elvis Evora allowed the hosts to get a 41-26 halftime margin. Ovarense made it a 20-point game, 46-26, right after the break, as Porto called a much-needed timeout. The guests needed a major comeback to win the title, but it just didn't happen, as all Ovarense fans started to celebrate another Portuguese League title long before the final buzzer!
