Zadar stroke first in the best-of-five Croatian League finals by thrashing Split Croatia osiguranje 76-52 at home on Tuesday. Zadar leads the series 1-0, but Split hosts Game 2 on Thursday. Julius Johnson paced the winners with 14 points. Shammel Stallworth added 12, Pankracije Barac added 11 while Todor Gecevski grabbed 10 rebounds for Zadar. Dejan Ivanov led Split with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Hrvoje Peric added 13 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Stallworth fueled a 9-0 opening run for Zadar. Peric and Ivanov brought Split within 16-14 but Johnson had 8 points in a 13-0 run that made it a 15-point game, 29-14. Three-pointers by Andrej Stimac and Stallworth broke the game open, 37-18, midway through the second quarter. Barac and Stipcevic boosted the hosts' lead to 51-26 at halftime. Ivanov tried to bring Split back to life, but Zadar still led 63-41 and did not manage to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.
