Matt Walsh hit a big three-pointer to force overtime and another one early in the extra period to help Spirou Basket Charleroi overcome Basket Bree 71-75 in the Belgian League Finals opener on Tuesday night. It was a tense battle from the start, with neither team taking a sizeable lead in the first three periods after Spirou's 5-12 start. Bree looked to pull away in the fourth when Michael Meeks and Nick Jacobsen combined to put the hosts up 62-53, but the hosts froze up from that point, missing 5 straight shots as Charleroi came back to tie the score at 66-66. Star guard Doron Perkins went to the line in the closing seconds with a chance to win it for Bree, but missed twice and the game went to overtime. The momentum went Spirou’s way after Walsh’s second clutch three-pointer and the visitors hung on for the win. Wes Wilkinson led Charleroi with 15 points and 9 rebounds, Jerry Johnson added 12, Walsh had 11 and 4 steals and Len Matela posted 8 points and 14 rebounds. Perkins and Dor Fisher scored 16 apiece for Bree. Perkins also had 4 assists and 5 steals and Fished grabbed 10 rebounds.
