A Justin Hamilton layup in the closing seconds lifted Spirou Basket Charleroi to its seventh Belgian championship on Saturday night. Charleroi beat Basket Bree 59-61 in Game 3 to sweep the best-of-five Belgian League Finals and capture its first championship since 2004. It was a topsy-turvy game, which Bree seemed to control when it held Charleroi scoreless for more than nine minutes in the second period as it scored 14 straight points en route to a 28-17 halftime lead. Bree's advantage reached 15 in the third period before Matt Walsh heated up and helped bring Charleroi to 44-37 heading into the fourth quarter. Walsh hit another triple with just over three minutes remaining to cap a 0-8 run that gave the visitors their first lead since the first period. Dor Fisher responded for Bree, but that would be the hosts’ last lead. Wes Wilkinson and Tremmell Darden pushed Charleroi ahead by three, before a Michael Meeks triple tied the game at 59-59 with a minute remaining. Charleroi held for the last shot and had Hamilton soar for the game-winning basket in the last seconds. Walsh led the winners with 19 points and Hamilton finished with 9. Meeks paced Bree with 16 points and Doron Perkins recorded 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in defeat.
