MyGuide Amsterdam is the new Dutch League champions! Amsterdam dethroned defending champion EiffelTowers Den Bosch to win the best-of-seven series 4-3. Amsterdam reached its first title since 2005 and the sixth in the last 11 years by topping EiffelTowers 81-74 in Game 7 in the Dutch capital on Sunday. Teddy Gipson became the game hero by hitting back-to-back triples late in the fourth quarter to put Amsterdam ahead for good. He also led the winners with 27 points on 5-for-9 three-pointers and 4-for-4 free throws. Tamien Trent added 15, Avis Wyatt had 14 while Jeron Roberts got 12 for Amsterdam. Robert Owens and Darell Tucker led EiffelTowers each with 17 points. Kees Akerboom added 16 on 8-for-8 free throws while Travis Young got 10 for the guests, that had a 13-point lead in the second quarter and still kept a 64-65 edge with 6 minutes remaining. An outstanding Gipson and free throw accuracy allowed Amsterdam to win yet another Dutch League title.
Tucker and Young fueled a 4-9 run for EiffelTowers, as Amsterdam struggled to score against the guests' strong defense. A 0-7 run that Owens capped with a three-pointer boosted EiffelTowers' lead to double digits, 6-16. Roye Berkowitz and Trent traded triples to fix the score at 11-23 after 10 minutes. Jeron Roberts and Gipson tried to change things for Amsterdam while a free throw by Stefan Wessels made it a five-point game, 24-29. Owens had 9 points late in the first half to keep EiffelTowers ahead, 32-40, at the break. Amsterdam returned to the game, 39-41, early in the third quarter. Akerboom and Tucker stepped up for EiffelTowers but a 7-0 run that Sheiku Kabba capped with a triple gave Amsterdam its first lead of the game, 51-50, after 29 minutes. Akerboom followed 4-for-4 free throws with a triple to put EiffelTowers back ahead, 64-65, with 6 minutes remaining. Gipson followed a key basket with a bomb from downtown for a 72-68 Amsterdam lead with 3 minutes to go. Another three-pointer by Gipson broke the game open, 77-72, as EiffelTowers did not recover in the final minute.
