German League Semifinals, Game 3: June 1, 2008
Pascal Roller (Photo: Deutsche Bank Skyliners) The Deutsche Bank Skyliners took a 2-1 lead in its best-of-five semifinal series by downing Telekom Baskets Bonn 58-48 in Game 3 in Frankfurt also on Sunday. Pascal Roller paced the winners with 15 points on 8-for-9 free throws. Ilian Evtimov posted a double-double of 13 points on 6-for-6 free throws and 11 rebounds while Ken Johnson had 4 blocks for Alba. Eddie Basdem led Bonn with 14 points but none of his teammates scored in double digits. A 16-2 run in the fourth quarter allowed the Skyliners to register a key win. Meanwhile, EWE Baskets Oldenburg stayed alive in the competition by edging Alba Berlin 73-79 in the German capital also on Sunday. Jasmin Perkovic led the winners with 16 points. Rickey Paulding and Jason Gardner each added 15, former Alba center Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje had 13 while Branimir Longin posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds for Oldenburg. Immanuel McElroy had 24 points for Alba while Julius Jenkins added 17.

Bonn had a strong start in Frankfurt, leading 2-12 midway through the opening period through an unstoppable Basdem. Bonn kept a 12-19 edge after 10 minutes but Roller and Evtimov stepped up to bring the Skyliners back to life, 34-40, at halftime. evtimov kept pacing Alba while a three-pointer by Koko Archibong completed the hosts' comeback, 38-37, midway through the third quarter. Bonn still managed to regain the lead, 42-46, at the end of the third quarter. The Skyliners improved their defense, however, allowing just 2 points in the entire fourth quarter. A 16-2 run in the final 10 minutes, with Evtimov and Roller securing the win from the foul line, allowed the Skyliners to take the lead in the series.

In Berlin, Jenkins shined since the opening minutes and got some help from Patrick Femerling and an outstanding McElroy to make Alba get a 21-16 edge after 10 minutes. Oldenburg tried to get back in the game through Gardner and Longin, but free throws by Bobby Brown - his first points that far - and a three-pointer by Philip Zwiener gave Alba a 40-32 edge at halftime. Perkovic and Longin got the guests within 46-44 midway through the third quarter and Oldenburg managed to tie the game, 55-55, after 30 minutes. A three-pointer by Brown brought Alba back ahead, 60-58, with 7 minutes remaining. A 0-8 run that Boumtje-Boumtje capped with a three-point play gave Oldenburg a six-point lead, 60-66. A triple by Paulding and 4 quick points by Perkovic allowed Oldenburg to seal the outcome.
