Fenerbahce Ulker took a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Turkish League finals and got within one win of winning its third consecutive title by edging Turk Telekom 94-96 in overtime in Ankara in Game 4 on Sunday. Fenerbahce hosts Game 5 at Abdi Ipecki, Istanbul on Wednesday, with a chance to seal its Turkish League three-peat. Omer Onan paced the winners with 24 points on 5-for-11 three-pointers. Willie Solomon and Tarence Kinsey each added 15, Mirsad Turkcan had 14 and 8 rebounds, Damir Mrsic-Kaan got 10 points while Omer Asik pulled down 14 boards for Fenerbahce, that used a 2-9 run early in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good. Erwin Dudley led Turk Telekom with a double-double of 26 points on 10-for-16 two-pointers and 10 rebounds. Khalid El-Amin added 25 points, Tutku Acik had 16, Bekir Yarangume got 10 while Kris Lang pulled down 12 boards for the hosts, that are now in a do-or-die situation.
Solomon and Onan fueled a 4-14 run that allowed Fenerbahce to get a 8-14 lead midway through the first quarter. An unstoppable Onan and a final basket by Gasper Vidmar helped the guests to keep a 18-23 edge after 10 minutes. Acik and Dudley stepped up to make Turk Telekom tie the game, 25-25, early in the second quarter while Chris Williams put the hosts back ahead, 29-28, soon after that. Dudley kept shining, finishing the first half with 18 points to make Turk Telekom keep a 40-39 edge at the break. Dudley kept pacing the hosts and got some help from Yarangume to make it an eight-point game, 51-43, after 25 minutes. Onan led a 2-14 run that allowed Fenerbahce to regain a 53-57 edge, but El-Amin made Turk Telekom regain the lead, 62-59, at the end of the third quarter. It all came down to the final minute, as free throws by Mrsic gave Fenerbahce a 71-73 edge. Lang answered in the other end while Mrsic missed a potential game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer, 73-73. Kinsey and Turkcan shined early in the extra period to break the game open, 77-84. Even when Fenerbahce missed 3 free throws in the final 24 seconds, Turk Telekom only managed to get within 94-96 when the game clock expired.
