Alba Berlin took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five German League finals by trouncing Telekom Baskets Bonn 99-69 on Sunday. After a tight opening period, Berlin destroyed Bonn 35-9 in the second period to take a commanding 53-29 halftime lead. Any hope that Bonn had of a comeback died hard as Berlin padded its advantage with a 30-16 third quarter as the lead reached 38 points, making the fourth quarter for protocol only. The key to Berlin's win was red-hit shooting, including an incredible 23 for 24 (95.8%) in the paint. The hosts also shot 50% (10 for 20) from downtown. Julius Jenkins led Berlin with 26 points, Bobby Brown scored 16 and dished 6 assists, Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 16 points and 5 assists and Immanuel McElroy netted 11 for the winners. Bernd Kruel paced Bonn with 13 points, Winsome Frazier had 11 and Patrick Flomo 10. Berlin will try to wrap up the series in Game 4 in Bonn on Tuesday.
