Six teams still perfect through Week 2
Andre Hutson - Lottomatica Roma
Andre Hutson, 15 points in Moscow
An OT thriller among three road wins got Week 2 of the Euroleague Regular Season rocking strong on Wednesday and a trio of blowouts that left three giants undefeated and improved their championship credentials highlighted Thursday in another memorable week of action. When it was all said and done, six teams will head into Week 3 with perfect records and another six will hunt their first wins. In Group A, Montepaschi and Barcelona were among the big winners to get to 2-0. Montepaschi Siena blasted Zalgiris Kaunas 84-64 as Benjamin Eze matched his career-high with 16 points and Regal FCB drubbed Cibona 81-59 behind 20 points from Euroleague MVP Juan Carlos Navarro. Fenerbahce Ulker went to overtime to defeat host Asvel Basket 76-78 Wednesday on the strength of 21 points by Tarence Kinsey. Unicaja stayed perfect in Group B by handling Olympiacos 86-68 thanks to a 19-point debut from Taquan Dean. Joining it atop that group is the Lithuanian champion after Lietuvos Rytas topped Orleans 62-69 to become one of only two road winners on Thursday. Bojan Popovic sparked the winners with 11 points and 9 assists. Charles Smith scored 18 off the bench as Efes Pilsen downed Partizan 77-67 for its first win. One of two Italian teams to strike away from home this week was Lottomatica Roma, which invaded Moscow to defeat host CSKA 69-74 as Andre Hutson scored 15 points. For Roma, atop Group C at 2-0, the victory avenged a buzzer-beating Top 16 defeat in their last trip there, two years ago, shot by Trajan Langdon, who was unavailable this time for CSKA, due to flu. Caja Laboral thumped Maccabi Electra 88-81 as Tiago Splitter produced a career-high 26 points. Dimitrios Mavroeidis posted 17 points as Maroussi bested Union Olimpija 75-81 for the former’s first ever Euroleague victory. In Group D, reigning champion Panathinaikos crushed Khimki 101-66 to grab sole possession of the top spot with a 2-0 mark. Dimitris Diamantidis shine with a career-best 22 points for the Greens. Armani Jeans Milano beat EWE Baskets Oldenburg 70-79, spoiling the first Euroleague game ever in that town. Jonas Maciulis paced the visitors with 18 points. And Real Madrid got in the Group D win column by overwhelming Asseco Prokom Gdynia 94-72 as Week 1 MVP Darjus Lavrinoic again starred with 19 points, 4 steals and 5 assists....MORE
