The Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 hit its halfway mark with Week 3’s eight contests. With three games left in this phase of the competition, all teams are still alive and none have made the playoffs yet, but that could change as soon as next week. In fact, there is the potential for seven of the eight playoffs tickets to be handed out in one week’s time! The only team that depends on itself to advance is in Group E after CSKA rolled over Galatasaray Medical Park 85-70 on Thursday for its 14th straight win and ninth in a row in Moscow. Nenad Krstic produced 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed 9 rebounds to pace the Russian champs. Meanwhile, Olympiacos downed Anadolu Efes 83-65 after entering the fourth quarter with the score tied. Guards Kostas Sloukas and Vassilis Spanoulis paved the way in a 24-5 start to the fourth quarter. The teams are now tied along with GS Medical Park with 1-2 records. In the Game of the Week, Montepaschi Siena routed Unicaja 68-91 on the strength of David Moss’s career-high 20 points. Ksistof Lavrinovic also showed that his injuries are behind him with 18 points.  In the All-Spanish League duel in Group F, Real Madrid slammed Gescrap BB 89-73 as Sergio Rodriguez rocked to the tune of 20 points and 7 assists. Madrid is now 2-1. Madrid led by double figures after 10 minutes and coasted much of the way after. Bilbao cut the gap to 7 in the third quarter, but Madrid recovered quickly and put the game out of reach. If both Siena, which is now 3-0, and Madrid, 2-1, win their next games, they will both secure playoffs spots. Defending champion Panathinaikos blasted Fenerbahce Ulker 56-77 in Istanbul in Group G. Kostas Kaimakoglou went for 19 points and Romain Sato added a double-double as the Greens started strong and never looked back. In the first game of the day Wednesday, Unics Kazan dominated EA7 Emporio Armani Milan 59-44 to remain unbeaten in Group G. bwin Euroleague MVP for January Henry Domercant paced the hosts with 16 points, but the key to the game was defense as Unics limited the visitors to their lowest point total on record in the Euroleague. Nicolo Melli was the lone bright spot for Milan with 17 points. As in Group F, if both Panathinaikos and Unics win, they will be playoff-bound next week. After trailing at halftime, FC Barcelona Regal pounded Zalgiris Kaunas 94-80. Erazem Lorbek scored 19 and Juan Carlos Navarro 16 to pace Barcelona, which is 3-0. Zalgiris led by 1 at the break, but Barcelona tallied 52 second-half points and coasted to victory.  Bennet Cantu defeated Maccabi Electra 82-74 as Vladimir Micov amassed 17 points and 9 assists. Cantu trailed only once – in the second quarter – and Giorgi Shermadini and Gianluca Basile made timely baskets as the home side improved to 2-1. Wins for Barca and Cantu on the road next week would send both into the playoffs. Top 16, Week 4 will be as exciting as ever, so don’t miss it!
