In one of the early opening games at the Torneo Cittá di Roma on Saturday, Virtus Bologna of Italy pulled steadily away from Benetton Fribourg of Switzerland to a solid 94-73 win in Group B. Five players oon the winning team scored between 14 and 17 points, the latter figure belonging to swingman Riccardo Moraschini, who led Bologna's break on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Luca Fontecchio, who followed with 15 points, was his team's big gun inside. Andrea Binelli and Matteo Negri authored 14 points each, while Claudio Tommasini picked up 13 more. Bologna witshtood a big game by point guard Stefan Petkovic of Fribourg, who buried 23 points to lead all scorers. Brian Savoy and big man Nichel-Ofik N'Zege had 17 and 16, respectively, for Fribourg, which was close to Bologna for the first 15 minutes. Bologna followed Fontecchio and Moraschini to a big run that made it 52-39 at halftime, and then stopped the Swiss team almost cold for the first 6 minutes after halftime, raising the advantage to 65-43 on three-point shots by Tomassini and Moraschini. Fribourg recovered to play Bologna even the rest of the way, but could not climb back on the scoreboard closer than 15 points on a triple by Petkovic. The third quarter ended 67-50 and Bologna was not in danger the rest of the way.
