THE TAKE

KK Buducnost can solidify its push towards the elimination round as it welcomes Antwerp Giants in a Group E encounter. Coach Dejan Radonjic's Buducnost stayed with Triumph Lyubertsy for three quarters before finally losing on the road to drop to 4-2 - good for sole possession of second place one game behind Lyubertsy. The Montenegrin club struggled to just 46% from the field, including 5-of-22 (23%) from long range while Triumph hit 52% for the game. Power forward Vladimir Micov had 12 points and 12 rebounds while shooting guard Nemanja Gordic had 16 points. But Radonjic's troops struggled from downtown and allowed Triumph to pull away. Buducnost survived 22 turnovers and another off-night from long range in winning at Antwerp in Week Two, mainly because Radonjic's team won the rebounding battle, 29-17. Antwerp Giants must improve on that and come into the showdown at 2-4 after winning at home against Fribourg. Coach Sven Van Camp's Antwerp won the game with its defense in the second half as it allowed just 17 points in the final 20 minutes. Small forward Brandon Gay led the Belgian offense with 15 points while power forward Ian Hanavan had 9 points and 7 rebounds and center Yves Dupont collected 2 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Van Camp's team desperately needs to win this contest as even a victory would leave Antwerp one game from third place. But it would be a start.

Bojan Bakic - Buducnost Buducnost scored a crucial 76-65 win over Antwerp Giants in Group E on Tuesday night in Podgorica, Montenegro. The result sees head coach Dejan Radonjic’s squad improve to 5-2 for second position in the group, while Antwerp drops to 2-5. Next week Buducnost will look to clinch a spot in the elimination rounds when it hosts Swiss champion Benetton Fribourg, while Antwerp welcomes Hapoel Galil Elyon. The game was close into the fourth quarter, but Nikola Otasevic and Nemanja Gordic drilled threes during a 10-0 run that put the hosts up 71-58 and sealed the win. Captain Ivan Maras led Buducnost with 15 points, Bojan Bakic added 13 and Vladimir Micov chipped in with 11. Brandon Gay scored 18 and Ian Hanavan added 14 for Antwerp in defeat.

Buducnost controlled the paint in the early going and was very efficient from the perimeter as Micov netted 6 points. However Gay kept the visitors in the game. The hosts used a 9-2 run in the start of the second quarter to build a 27-17 lead. However Hanavan, former Buducnost player Mladen Sekularac and Aleksander Lichodzijewski pieced together a 5-17 Antwerp charge, sealed with Ryan Sears’s three free throws to take a 32- 34 lead. Maras, Vladimir Dasic and Bakic answered for the hosts to take a 37-36 halftime advantage. Gay bombed from perimeter and put Antwerp ahead at the opening of third period. Buducnost came right back with a 7-0 run in next three minutes. Still Antwerp dug deep and didn’t allow the local side to get a bigger advantage. Antwerp punished Buducnost for every mistake and equaled the score at 49-49 late in the third. Bakic then scored 6 points, Micov 3 and Otasevic his first for a 59-53 lead at the end of the third quarter. Buducnost made a decisive 10-0 run in the first part of the fourth quarter to get up 71-58. Otasevic and Gordic hit from beyond the arc and Dasic and Bakic added 2 points each allowing the home fans to begin celebrating early.

Head Coaches

RADONJIC, DEJAN
KK Buducnost
"I am very satisfied because we won and almost finished our job in Group E. It was almost like a mission impossible when we started our pre-season and I am proud that we made it this far. It was our second game in the last 48 hours with only one practice between them. I have to be satisfied with this win. We got into the game without much concentration. Even we were tired and under pressure due to the importance of the game, we knew the way to beat the Antwerp Giants. Defense was again our key factor to win. Congratulations to my players for their efforts and for this win."
VAN CAMP, SVEN
Antwerp Giants
"I think that my team played a very good game tonight against a very strong opponent, with a lot of young, talented players. At some point Buducnost had some trouble against our defense and that brought back us in the game. Of course, 27 turnovers are too many if you want to win the game. We are in a situation in which we have to rebuild the team. I am more satisfied with this game in Podgorica if you compared with our previous game against Buducnost. Of course, I am not happy because we lost but we played much better than in Antwerp."
SEKULARAC, MLADEN
Antwerp Giants
"It was very nice to come back and play here. I thought that we respected Buducnost too much while we were preparing the game. We were able to stay in the game for some parts of it, but when the team committed 27 turnovers, we cannot expect anything more."
