The Take

This is a pivotal game in Group E. Barcelona looks to maintain its perfect home record, while Zalgiris seeks a road win to make up for its first home loss last week. Both teams excel on the defensive end; Zalgiris has allowed the second-fewest points this season and Barcelona the third-lowest index rating. The hosts will aim to stop Zalgiris’s go-to guy James Anderson, though it was veteran power forward Paulius Jankunas that shined last week. Alex Abrines and DeShaun Thomas could get the call to guard Anderson, while Justin Doellman will be charged with stopping Jankunas. Zalgiris will look to quiet All-Euroleague center Ante Tomic and to disrupt playmaker Marcelinho Huertas. Robertas Javtokas will try to use his strength to keep Tomic out of the paint, while the duo of Will Cherry and Lukas Lekavicius target Marcelinho. Zalgiris shooter Arturas Milaknis and counterpart Edwin Jackson are players that could make a major impact on the game.

Quotes Head Coaches

PASCUAL, XAVI
FC Barcelona
"Zalgiris has a good combination of young and experienced players. They are very competitive and they always stay in the game. They are a team that must be respected. Sarunas Jasikevicius is a historic player for Barcelona and the Euroleague. He is a legend and he was extraordinary and we are heppy that he's back to the Palau. He's following the right steps and I am sure he will be a great coach in the future."
KRAPIKAS, GINTARAS
Zalgiris Kaunas
"Barcelona has some injured players, so there is a chance for us to win even on the road. We have to be very concentrated on defense and to take our shots in the offense. They have a tall lineup, so we can not hesitate and will have to take the right decisions while we attack. Barcelona likes to play fast, so we can not turn the ball over and hand them easy buckets. Their domestic record shouldn’t impact this game as the season is long and sometimes big teams relax in national championships, but the games in the Euroleague are different."

Players

NACHBAR, BOSTJAN
FC Barcelona
"I think we have mainly a mental problem and we do not react well on the road. When playing away we do not things well as we do at home. If we want to win titles this season we have to start winning on the road."
MILAKNIS, ARTURAS
Zalgiris Kaunas
"They will play at home and will try to improve their game in front of their fans. It is a balanced team, which likes to run. We will need to make our shots if we want to be successful. They have tall guys in Tomic, Pleiss and Lampe, so we have to help our big guys as much as we can. Lately our shots haven’t been falling, so we hope to change that in Barcelona on Friday."
