THE TAKE

Bnei Hasharon hopes to collect its first victory in the Eurocup and keep alive its ever-so-slight chances of advancing to the Last 16 with a home game against Panellinios BC in Group D. Head coach Ariel Beit Halahmy's Bnei Hasharon side dropped to 0-3 with an 85-70 loss at Panellinios. The club hit 45% from the floor and just 2 of 15 (13%) from long range while turning the ball over 24 times. The game did not have a lot of flow as it featured a combined 43 turnovers and 55 free throws. Guard Richard Roby scored 18 points and forward Ugonna Onyekwe had 11 points and 7 rebounds, while guard Cookie Belcher added 13 points, but also committed 8 turnovers. Beit Halahmy did not get much production from the rest of his team and will need all of his players to step up for the club's first ever Eurocup victory. Panellinios improved to 1-2 with the win at home and beating Bnei Hasharon again would keep alive head coach Ilias Zouros's side's chances of advancing to the Last 16. Panellinios shot 47% from the field and Zouros got big games from two players - reserve forward Ivan Radenovic (22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and forward Stevan Nadjfeji (20 points and 10 rebounds) - while guard Manolis Papamakarios had 15 points - but 6 turnovers - and forward Brad Newley added 10 points. But the rest of the team made just six baskets. Zouros will like his team's defense, forcing the 24 turnovers. But he cannot have enjoyed watching his team give the ball up 19 times. If Panellinios can keep up its strong defensive pressure it should remain alive for a spot in the Last 16.

Quotes Head Coaches

ZOUROS, ILIAS
Panellinios BC
"The game in Israel is too dangerous and will not have anything to do with the game we played against Bnei last week. We will have to be very careful and play together as a team throughout the 40 minutes of the game. The Israeli team can be very dangerous at home."

Players

NADJFEJI, STEVAN
Panellinios BC
"Bnei Hasharon is a really good team and the score difference at the end of the game last week in which we won, does not reflect reality. We will have to work hard for 40 minutes if we want to secure a win that will mainatin all our hopes to qualify for the Lat 16 round in the Eurocup."
Meir Tapiro - Bnei HasharonBnei Hasharon earned its first win of its Eurocup season with a 78-76 victory over visiting Panellinios in Group D. The hosts held the lead for the majority of the game, but it was anything but easy. Meir Tapiro scored five times out of six free throw attempts in the last seconds to stay on top and secure the win. Both teams are now tied with a 1-3 record, and still have a chance to qualify to the next round, though they must win both remaining games. Tapiro led Bnei Hasharon with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, Cookie Belcher added 15 and 5 steals, Richard Roby scored all of his 12 points in the first half and Ousmane Cisse recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds. Panellinios saw Ivan Radenovic shine with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Stevan Nadjfeji added 12 and Georgios Kalaitzis had 10 points.

The visitors took a quick 2-6 lead, but Tapiro with a three pointer put Bnei Hasharon on top by a small 10-8 margin. Roby and Tapiro led an 8-1 run towards the end of the first quarter on the way to a 22-16 first quarter lead. Radenovic showed his presence in the paint to cut the lead in half, but Roby pushed the lead to 34-24 midway in the second quarter. Manolis Papamakarios connected from distance and Radenovic from the line moved Panellinios closer once again, and at the half Bnei Hasharon held just a small lead of 39-38.

Belcher kept Bnei Hasharon on top early in the second half, but Kalaitzis led a Panellinios run on the way to a 48-54 lead. An unsportsmanlike foul from Brad Newley allowed Bnei Hasharon to tie the score. Radenovic scored again in the low post and finished the third quarter with a 56-56 tie. Shawn James connected another triple to make it 65-61 with 4:53 minutes on the clock and when Ugonna Onyekwe pushed Bnei Hasharon up with a big follow dunk to reach a what seemed to be safe 70-61 lead. Panellinios wasn't about to give up yet, scored five in a row and had the ball, but Anthony Grundy turned the ball over and Belcher scored from the other side a crazy off balance and a bonus from the line that also fouled out Papamakarios to make it 73-66. The teams entered the last 90 seconds with Bnei Hasharon on top 73-70 when Cisse grabbed two crucial offensive rebounds. Belcher missed a corner three that could have pull down the curtain and Kalaitzis scored from the line with 21.6 seconds on the clock. Panellinios pressured the in bound and managed to get the ball back, but after a time out, failed to in bound as well and Tapiro was sent to the line to connect two with 16 seconds on the clock. Newley hit just once on the other side with 7.7 ticks to play, and once again Tapiro hit twice a second later to make it a 77-73 game. Vladimir Petrovic hit a desperate three point from the wing with 1.9 seconds, before Tapiro, for the third time in a row, went to the charity stripe. He missed the first, and hit the second with the board, which allowed the guests just one last chance. Kalaitzis got the ball at half court and managed to hit the rim, but it wasn't enough to take the win away from Bnei Hasharon.

Head Coaches

BEIT HALAHMY, ARIEL
Bnei Hasharon
"It was a great game for us. We played against a very strong team with a good coach. We came after the win over Maccabi and I must say that the media and some fans were a little skeptical that we can win two big games in one week, but my guys came to this game with great motivation and played very good. They were fighting a lot and brought their heart to the court. In the second quarter we had very good minutes, but against a team like Panellinios you have to play 40 minutes well, or else they'll punish you. In the break we were talking about how much we want to win and how important it is for the club. We'll play until the last second and do our best to win another game at least."
ZOUROS, ILIAS
Panellinios BC
"Congratulations to Bnei for the win. They did two very good wins in a row this week. We played very bad and didn't deserve to win. When you play like this in such a key game, that can help you qualify, you don't deserve to do it. We made 20 turnovers with had no concentration and that tells the whole story. I wish the best to Bnei. They wanted to win more than us and they deserved it."

Players

CISSE, OUSMANE
Bnei Hasharon
"We did a good job tonight. It's our first win in the Eurocup so it's an exciting moment. Coming back from the Maccabi game we were a little tired, but also very motivated. We put a good fight and did a good job to win this game. We got the talent to make it to the next round, but we had a tough time on the road and lost by large margins. I hope we still have the time to fix it."
RADENOVIC, IVAN
Panellinios BC
"I want to congratulate our opponents. Bnei played really good. They wanted this win really bad. We kind of relaxed and didn't do our job as a team. If you want to win on the road in the Eurocup you have to play really well to win this kind of games."
