THE TAKE

Siauliai looks to remain in the running for the elimination round as it hosts a crucial Group A tussle against Alba Berlin. Coach Robertas Kuncaitis's Siauliai dropped to 2-4 after taking Turk Telekom to overtime before finally losing. The Lithuanian side shot 60% but was out-rebounded 33-25 and allowed Telekom to shoot 56%. Siauliai wasted a 23-point showing by point guard Jose Olivero, who led five players in double figures including center Saulius Kuzminskas chipping in 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks off the bench. Kuncaitis's side lost by 15 points in Week Two in Berlin but crucially needs a victory at home since Siauliai is currently on the outside looking in regarding the next round. With DKV Joventut and Turk Telekom already running away with first and second place, Siauliai's best chance is to catch Berlin. Coach Luka Pavicevic's Alba was unable to use the euphoria from its five-overtime win over Bosna in dropping to 3-3 with a home loss against DKV Joventut. Point guard Bobby Brown scored 23 points while small forward Dijon Thompson and power forward Goran Nikolic combined for 26 points and 15 rebounds. But shooting guard Julius Jenkins was unable to play, which caused Pavicevic's offense to slump to 43% shooting. Berlin will need Jenkins if it wants to solidify its hold on third place in Group A.

Arturas Masiulis - Siauliai Siauliai only needed 20 minutes to get its third win of the season as it defeated Alba Berlin at home on Tuesday night by 71-51 in a Group A showdown. The win lifts Siauliai to a 3-3 record while Alba drops to the same register for a share of third place. The poor shooting performance of the guests in the second quarter allowed Siauliai to climb to a 15-0 scoring run that sealed the deal. Arturas Masiulis led the way for the winners with 18 points, Antonio Grant added 17 and Donatas Zavackas had 13. For Alba, Julius Jenkins posted 22 points and Bobby Brown added 14.

Siauliai started fast with a 11-2 burst at the beginning with Arturas Masiulis as main protagonist. Julius Jenkins led the Alba reaction to trim the deficit down to 11-8, but the hosts maintained a slim cushion in the following plays. Antonio Grant's free throw made it 19-11 but a last basket by Jenkins left things on 19-13 after 10 minutes.Julius Jenkins - Alba Berlin The 6 assists and 4 steals of Siauliai were a big obstacle for Alba at this point, and Aurimas Kieza's triple allowed Siauliai to pull away a little more, 28-16. The scoring run was up to 15-0 for the hosts as Alba's 6 of 29 from the field didn't help the guests much as the scoreboard showed a 35-16. Vujadin Subotic broke the spell for Alba with his basket but the game arrived at the break with a clear 39-19 for Siauliai. Alba was another team when the second half started. Jenkins and Goran Nikolic led the way for the guests to trim the deficit down to 50-34, but Siauliai managed the solid cushion well even if it was only from the free throw line, 54-38 after 30 minutes. In the last period, Siauliai was back in business as it soon regained the 20-point lead with Donatas Zavackas' three, 61-41. Alba never surrendered, but the clock walked steady towards the final buzzer and Siauliai managed to get the final win to rise to a 3-4 in Group A, good for a share of third place.

Head Coaches

KUNCAITIS, ROBERTAS
Siauliai
"They didn't need any stimulation, everyone was ready to fight, everyone wanted to prove we could play without one or other player. The team surprised me and the game was good for us."
PAVICEVIC, LUKA
Alba Berlin
"Today we went the wrong way: we were bad on defense and made only some rebounds. There shouldn't be a big difference playing away and at home but... I can pay a compliment to our opponents. They were very strong. Lost matches in Ankara and Tallinn made the influence on Siauliai game. Siauliai has a great opportunity to enter the elimination rounds now."

Players

RINKEVICIUS, TOMAS
Siauliai
"I had been waiting for the chance to come since the beginning of the season and today I had that chance and I did my best on the court. We won because of good team defense."
MASIULIS, ARTURAS
Siauliai
"We won because of good defense . It wasn't a difficult match for me if even Saulius Kuzminskas had an injury and he couldn't help us. The coaches had analysed the game of Alba and we prepared for the match very well."
JENKINS, JULIUS
Alba Berlin
"We did our work badly, we weren't aggressive enough in defense. I don't think that our win in Berlin influenced today's game. Siauliai were just stronger."
