THE TAKE

KK Bosna needs an upset at home over Turk Telekom in Group A to stay in the running for the next round. Coach Jurij Zdovc's Bosna finally pulled away from winless Guildford Heat in the fourth quarter to improve to 2-4. The Bosnian side trailed after three periods but out-scored Guildford 34-19 in the final 10 minutes. Bosna shot 62% from the floor to win even though Heat made 51% of its shots. Power forward Lance Williams was dominant coming off the bench for the first time with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. And small forward Quemont Greer hit for 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in his first start of the season. In addition, point guard Bryan Bailey added 16 points, 7 assists and 2 steals. Turk Telekom is not Guildford and Zdovc's team cannot afford to play from behind if it hopes to move onto the elimination round. A home victory is essentially a must as it could bring on a three-way tie for third place. Second place is all-but-decided already between either undefeated DKV Joventut or Turk Telekom. Coach Ercument Sunter's Telekom improved to 5-1 but needed overtime to hold off Siauliai. The Turkish side shot 56% from the field and out-rebounded Siauliai 33-25 - which off-set Sunter's team allowing the Lithuanian club to shoot 60% for the game. Power forward Michael Wright again dominated with 30 points and 8 rebounds while center Erwin Dudley added 22 points and 8 rebounds. Must importantly, that duo combined for 21-of-23 from the field. If Wright and Dudley can match that showing and point guard Khalid El-Amin and reserve forward Chris Williams continue their impressive seasons, look for Turk Telekom to stay on the heels of Joventut.

Khalid El-Amin - Turk Telekom Turk Telekom survived in a difficult road game at KK Bosna by 80-85 in a Group A showdown on Tuesday night. The win allows Turk Telekom to lift its record to 6-1 while Bosna drops to 2-5 and is fifth in the standings. Bosna managed to dominated the first half of the game, but when Turk Telekom managed to jump ahead again in the third quarter, it never looked back again. Khalid El-Amin led the way for the winners with 20 points, Erwin Dudley added 15, Chris Williams 14 and Baris Ozcan posted 10. For Bosna Lance Williams led the way with 20 points, Quemont Greer added 18 and Goran Ikonic and Edin Bavcic posted 11 apiece.

Edin Bavcic started hot for Bosna with 8 points as he led his team into a 18-6 run to start the game while Turk Telekom's big men struggled with 1 of 5 from the paint and insisting too much on threes that didn't go in. Four free throws by Chris Williams and Muratcan Guler made it 18-12 but Lance William's last effort left things at 20-12 after 10 minutes. The second quarter started with four points by Quemont Greer that lifted Bosna a little more, but two straight threes by Guler and Tutku Acik made it a 10-point game again, 30-20. Between Khalid El-Amin and Baris Ozcan, 8 more points fell in for Turk Telekom who was suddenly down by 4 points, 39-35. The guests were still weak inside, but from the arc their 7 of 14 was saving the day. Meanwhile, Bosna still performed better overall but it got stuck now with turnovers that allowed Michael Wright to make it 39-37 and Erwin Dudley finally tied it at 39-39 but two free throws by Lance Williams in the last play allowed the hosts to lead by 2 at the break, 41-39. Defense was the key in the third period as both sides found it tough to score. A three-point play by Erwin gave the guests their first lead since the first quarter but Turk Telekom was not able to pull away. The American players of both teams exchanged baskets as El-Amin hit a three for 47-51 and Greer scored again for 51-53. Things stayed as close as ever after 30 minutes with Turk Telekom dominating by 53-54. The last quarter started tight again but when Dudley put the 57-65 on the scoreboard and then again a 62-71 in minute 37, it was clear that Bosna had to step on the gas if it wanted the win. But in the last minutes however, the guests managed to control the outcome with the slim cushion in their hands.
