THE TAKE

Köln 99ers and FMP both look to stop two-game skids and even their record at 2-2 in Group B as the teams hook horns in Germany. Coach Sasa Obradovic's Köln side struggled from long range and the free throw line in a loss at BK Ventspils. The Germans hit just 6-of-17 (35%) on three-pointers and 19-of-32 (59%) from the charity stripe in dropping to 1-2. Small forward Toby Bailey was one of the few all-around weapons for Obradovic with 21 points (including 5-of-7 from three-point range) and three assists. Point guard Immanuel McElroy dished out five assists for the Germans but could not find his own shots, scoring just three free throws and missing his only shot from the field (13 points below his average coming into the game). Köln must get McElroy more involved in the flow of the offense if it wants to win at home against FMP. The Serbs had a chance to win at the buzzer but center Zoran Erceg missed his game-winning attempt at Besiktas Cola Turka. Coach Vlada Vukoicic's FMP team struggled from the foul stripe, hitting 16-of-23 (70%) of its free throws. That's a respectable percentage, but Besiktas made 18-of-23 - to decide the game. Vukoicic's perimeter defense did a good job holding the Turks to just 4-of-14 (28%) from long range. But it was not enough. A positive for Vukoicic was point guard Nemanja Protic collecting 21 points and six assists in proving that he deserved his first start of the competition. And center Predrag Samardziski was able to return to the starting five and totaled 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes of action. Another performance like that could be well enough for FMP to gather a road win at Köln and even its record at 2-2.
