THE TAKE

Köln 99ers can pull into a tie for second place in Group B with a victory at home over BK Ventspils. Coach Sasa Obradovic's Köln had its three-game winning streak snapped in losing at home to Besiktas to fall to 4-3. The German team committed 23 turnovers and made just 4-of-18 (22%) from long range while allowing Besiktas to shoot 49% from the floor. Small forward Toby Bailey had a fine all-around game with 15 points and 8 rebounds while power forward Yassin Idbihi added 13 points and point guard Immanuel McElroy scored 12 points. But Obradovic received just 13 points from his reserves, which proved not enough. Köln will be looking for revenge from its 15-point Week Three loss at Ventspils. Obradovic's team made just 19-of-32 foul shots (59%) and allowed Ventspils to shoot 54% from the field. Both of those stats will have to improve if Köln wants to pull even with Ventspils. Coach Gasper Okorn's Ventspils improved to 5-2 with a convincing home victory against Ovarense Aerosoles before the break. Ventspils shot a blistering 60% from the field while holding Ovarense to just 36% for the game. Shooting guard Jimmy Baxter had 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists as every Ventspils player scored and grabbed at least one rebound. Okorn's troops can qualify for the elimination round and clinch second place in Group B with a victory on the road. But it will be much tougher in Germany than at home against Aerosoles. And Ventspils will be facing a different Köln side than the one it played in Week Three as Obradovic's team is now deeper. Expect a tough battle in Köln.
