THE TAKE

Buducnost m:tel and BC Siauliai will square off Tuesday in Montenegro in what could either be the host’s confirmation game as Last 16 contenders or the visitors first win in the Eurocup this season. Buducnost made noise last week after defeating Group C leader Budivelnik to improve to 2-2 and has a chance to move up to the second spot in the standings with a victory over Siauliai, who needs the win to stay alive, evening their record with the loser of the Budivelnik/Gran Canaria matchup. Marko Simonovic led Buducnost last week with 14 points and fellow forward Vladimir Dragicevic added 13. Dragisevic is the Eurocup’s ninth leading scorer at 17.3 points per game and part of the Buducnost gameplan is always to get him the ball in position. A task to be split by guards Nikola Otasevic and Aleksej Nesovic. Buducnost must also keep an eye on Siauliai’s Mindaugas Zukauskas in the perimeter, as the sweet shooting forward hit 6 of 8 three-pointers last week for 20 points, while also adding 5 assists. Guards Ricky Harris and Zygimantas Janavicius will be charged with harassing the duo of Otasevic and Nesovic. In the paint, Buducnost has Marko Scekic, who will be challenged by big David Weaver. Buducnost blasted Siauliai 76-97 as Simonovic and Scekic on Week 1 and will have plenty of confidence now that they are playing at home. However Siauliai head coach Antanas Sireika will be sure to make Buducnost play if the home team is overconfident. Buducnost may be the favorite, but anything can still happen in this contest.

Vladimir Dragicevic - Buducnost (photo Budivelnik)An early 20-2 run by KK Buducnost allowed the hosts to pull away and never look back in a home win over Siauliai on Tuesday night by 83-66. Siauliai reacted later, but there was nothing that could be done as Buducnost regained control and just cruised to the final win. Now, Buducnost improves its record to 3-2 in the Group C standings to tie with Budivelnik with only one game to go. On the other hand, Siauliai remains winless with a 0-5 and out of the Last 16 race. Vladimir Dragicevic led the winners with his 24 points, Marko Scekic added 14 and Vladimir Mihailovic had 11. For thelosers, David Weaver had 16 points, Darius Gvezdauskas added 15 and Vytautas Sarakauskas, 13.

Siauliai started with the upper hand with a 0-4 by David Weaver but KK Buducnost reacted fast with a 20-2 run to send a strong message. Marko Scekic was the main man for the hosts dishing assists and gettin points from the paint to make it 20-6 entering the last minute. Only Mindagas Zukauskas managed to stop the bleeding for the guests with two free throws that put an end to the first quarter with a 20-8 Buducnost edge. The hosts also charged in the first plays of the second quarter and soon it was a 20-point game, 30-10. Darius Gvezdauskas hit three triples to show some signs of life from Siauliai but a 73% in two- point shots for the hosts and the 13 turnovers of the guests allowed for things to stop at a 45-30 Buducnost lead at the halftime break.

The screenplay didn't change much in the third quarter. Buducnost dominated at ease, never seeign its lead threatened at all. Vytautas Sarakauskas tried to take a more active role in the game for Siauliai, but the hosts handed the situation through Vladimir Dragicevic. Mario Delas scored for the 55-39 and Weaver appeared again for six straight points at the end of the third quarter to make it 62-51 after 30 minutes and a 0-8 run for Siauliai. A four-point play by Arvydas Cepulis allowed Siauliai to start the quarter only seven points down, 62-55, but Buducnost reacted with its own 6-0 sealed with Vladimir Mihailovic's dunk. Siauliai was playing tighter now but it all came too late as Mihailovic slammed again to make it 79-65 just before entering the last minute to give Buducnost a win that keeps all its hopes alive for the Last 16.

Head Coaches

RADONJIC, DEJAN
Buducnost m:tel
"Another victory in Eurocup for us. We realized what we expected before the match and won a new one. From the first to the last moment of the game we played well, controlled the events of the 40 minutes and win did not come into question. Starting tomorrow, we turn to Saturday's match with Cibona, it will be the last game at home this year and we want to finish it the right way."
SIREIKA, ANTANAS
Siauliai
"We were not ready for the aggressive play of Buducnost in defense, which was on the limit of the foul. I congratulate the hosts on the well deserved victory and I wish them luck in the rest of the season."
