THE TAKE

If Guildford Heat is going to grab a victory in Group A, this might be the best chance as it welcomes deflated KK Bosna. Coach Paul James's Heat fell to 0-5 with a 40-point home loss against Turk Telekom. Guildford made just 38% of its shots and was out-rebounded 41-27 while allowing Turk to shoot 60% from the field. Small forward Tony Dorsey and shooting guard Daniel Gilbert combined for 47 points. But the rest of the starting five was held in check with just 12 points combined. James's troops lost by 16 points on the road against Bosna in Week One, but this is an entirely different team and the British champion would love to finally give its home fans a victory to celebrate in what's been a very difficult season. Bosna of course suffered a huge let-down last week, losing in five overtimes at Alba Berlin to fall to 1-4. Coach Jurij Zdovc's team twice was leading by five points in an extra period only to lose the game by 14 points. Power forward Lance Williams had 34 points and 9 rebounds while playmaker Kyle Hill added 26 points and shooting guard Bryan Bailey scored 20 for Bosna, which turned the ball only 12 times in 65 minutes of action. Zdovc hopes his team can put behind it the shocking loss and rebound as it can pull into a tie for fourth place in Group A.

Bryan Bailey - KK Bosna KK Bosna bounced back from a tough outing to stay alive in the race for the elimination round with a 85-98 road victory over Guildford Heat in Group A. Lance Williams tallied 28 points to lead five Bosna players in double figures while Quemont Greer scored 18 points, and Bryan Bailey had 16 points and 7 assists. Goran Ikonic also hit for 13 points and Jeremy Veal chipped in 10 points and 4 assists for Bosna, which played well after losing last week in a historic five-overtime thriller at Alba Berlin. Guildford Heat remains winless at 0-6 despite 28 points and 10 rebounds from Daniel Gilbert and 24 points from Tony Dorsey. Michael Martin added 14 points and Ajou Deng had 11 for Guildford, which succumbed to a poor fourth quarter showing, which included a 14-2 Bosna run to put the game out of reach. Guildford next travels to DKV Joventut looking for win No. 1 while Bosna hosts Turk Telekom. Guildford led 60-50 midway through the third quarter, but Bosna rallied and managed to seal the outcome minutes before the final buzzer.

Greer got the visitors on the board first and his three-pointer opened a 3-9 lead for Bosna. Martin answered with a triple while Elmer Harrison's long-ball cut the deficit to 12-13. Guildford was staying close and Gilbert's basket made it 18-20, only to see Greer push the lead back to six points at 18-24. Dorsey came back down for a three-pointer and Bosna led only 23-24 after one period. Edin Bavcic's three-pointer for Bosna started the second quarter and back-to-back scores by Gilbert saw Guildford up 32-29. And Martin scored eight points in a 12-2 surge as the Heat managed a 44-33 lead. But two Williams baskets and a three-ball by Veal trimmed Guildford's advantage to just 46-40 at the break. Dorsey collected two scores to start the third period and Deng's foul shots opened a 52-40 gap. But Veal knocked down a three-pointer and Williams converted a three-point play and the margin was again back to 52-48. Martin and Gilbert kept Guildford ahead 60-50 only to see Williams score two more times to bring Bosna back to within 64-60. And Williams's foul shots made it 66-64 for Guildford through three periods. Williams evened the game with two free throws to start the fourth and Ikonic finally put Bosna back ahead with a three-ball. Ikonic added two foul shots, which Deng answered with a three-pointer for a 69-71 deficit. But Williams and Greer both converted a three-point plays and Bryan Bailey and Suad Sehovic both knocked down three-balls in a 2-14 run to open a 72-85 gap. Gilbert would not let Guildford die that easily and had a three-point play and long-ball to make it a 78-85 game with four minute left. Ikonic's triple made it 79-90 but Dorsey answered right back from long range. And Gilbert's foul shot had the margin back to 83-90. But Bailey drained two foul shots and a three-pointer for a 83-95 advantage with just more than a minute left. And Bosna secured a 85-98 road victory.
