Red Star won the first Group B game at the Belgrade NIJT on Friday morning by defeating Union Olimpija 90-80. Aleksandar Cvetkovic was the best man for the winners thanks to his 28 points and 6 rebounds. Ivan Marinkovic helped with his 18 points, Ivan Saicic added 16, Marko Radonjic 13 and Nikola Cvorovic 10. For Union Olimpija, Erjon Kastrati led the scorers with 19 points, Luka Rupnik posted 18 and Ziga Dimec had 16 and 10 boards. Red Star took command at the beginning and was already winning by 8 points after 10 minutes, 23-15. Things changed in the folllowing two quarters however as Union Olimpija reacted by cintrolling the rebounds. Olimpija also dished more assists (18-23) than the rival and managed to jump ahead, 43-44, at the beginning of the second half but then, a 10-0 run by Red Star turned things over again. Olimpija didn't surrender however and managed to come back again and jump in the lead in the first plays of the last period, 67-69, but then came a 13-2 run for Red Star again that made it 80-71 and too much of an effort for Olimpija to come back one third time.
