Fenerbahce Ulker joined Lietuvos Rytas atop the Torneo Citta di Roma's Group A standings by downing Benetton Basket Treviso 76-87 on Monday. Candan Berkay led the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Nuri Gul Guney added 19 points while Oguzhan Turan had 17 for Fener. Raphael Gaspardo led Benetton with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Pavlin Ivanov added 16 points, Daniele Masocco had 11 while Armin Mazic got 10 for the Italian side. Three-pointers by Ivanov, Massoco and Gaspardo allowed Benetton to get an early 11-4 lead. Berkay tried to change things for FB Ulker and a three-point play by Erbil Eroglu kept his team within 16-12. Ivanov and Gaspardo kept pacing Benetton to give their team a 23-19 edge after 10 minutes. Back-to-back baskets by Guney and Berkay tied it at 23-23 early in the second quarter. Masocco took over with 8 unanswered points to give his team some fresh air at 33-25. It didn't last long, as Eroglu and Guney stepped up to tie it again at 37-37. A jumper by Berkay gave FB Ulker its first lead, 40-41, but Federico Di Prampero answered from downtown to fix the halftime score at 43-41. Guney and Turan helped Fenerbahce to regain the lead, 43-47, right after the break. Benetton did not give up, as an outstanding Gaspardo and a triple by Ivanov put the Italian side back ahead, 55-54. It didn't last long, however, as Turan led a 2-18 run that broke the game open, 57-72, after 30 minutes. Nothing changed since that moment, as Berkay and Guney helped fener to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.
