THE TAKE

Alba Berlin and Kraznye Krylia face each other Tuesday night at opposite ends of the Group H standings in a matchup highlighted by the firing of head coach Mikhail Mikhailov after the Red Wings lost their home opener against Pepsi Caserta. Down 0-1 in the tournament, Vladislav Konovalov will take charge on an interim basis against Alba Berlin who is off to a good start after their comeback win last week against Anwil. Alba looks to power forward Tadija Dragicevic’s clutch play and Immanuel McElroy’s scoring prowess to lead the way. McElroy, an All-Eurocup selection last season, got off to a strong start this season and will challenge the host’s biggest threats, new signee Qyntel Woods and Gerald Green, who did not play in the opener. Derrick Allen, Dragicevic and Patrick Femerling give Alba a potent frontcourt that hopes to keep Primoz Brezec in check after the talented center went on a first half scoring rampage last week, finishing 10 for 10 from the field. To complement his strong inside presence, Kraznye could try to push the tempo some on Alba, and the backcourt tandem of Brion Rush and JR Bremer will surely put the pressure on the home guards. Hollis Price will share the playmaking duties with Marko Marinovic, while Julius Jenkins remains the main man in the backcourt that will try to continue Berlin’s positive start to the season.

Quotes Head Coaches

PAVICEVIC, LUKA
Alba Berlin
"In such a short competition of only six games in a group of four teams it is essential to defend your homecourt. We have to do so against Krasnye Krylia, which has lost the first game at home - not, because they are a bad team, but because they became careless after having gained a lead in the first half. The more they will spend extra efforts to steal this win back instantly with a win on the road.

Krasnye Krylia has a group of excellent players, but also relies a lot on the outstanding individual qualities of these players. I think, we have to follow the example of Caserta, and try to stop them with better team play. The fact, that Krasnye Krylia arrives in Berlin with a new coach, makes our preparation even more complicated, because a new coach always brings new ideas and new spirit into the team. We have to be prepared for surprises."

Players

Tadija Dragicevic - Alba BerlinAlba Berlin had an easy time staying atop Group H after two games as it aced its home opener with a resounding 88-64 victory over visiting Krasnye Krylia on Wednesday. Alba now holds a 2-0 record and is tied for first place with Caserta, while Krylia dropped to 0-2. Alba's 11-for-26 three-point shooting established and sustained big leads all game long. Derrick Allen, who shot no three-pointers, however, paced the winners with 19 points on 9-for-10 two-point shooting. Marko Marinovic follwed with 15 points and Tadija Dragicevic 13, both on the strength of 3 three-pointers each. Krylia got 18 points from Brion Rush, 13 from Jermareo Davidson and 12 from Primoz Brezec while Ernest Bremer pulled 11 rebounds.

Brion Rush - Krasnye KryliaTriples by Immanuel McElroy and Marinovic propelled Alba to a quick 10-5 lead. By the time Allen joined the scoring and Dragicevic fired from the arc, the hosts had their first double-digit advantage, 19-9, after 7 minutes. Krylia responded with a 0-7 run, also based on long-range shots, with one each hit by Konstantin Nesterov and Rush before Allen made a pair of baskets to keep Alba in charge, 23-16, after 10 minutes. Alba and Krylia traded baskets in the second quarter until layups by Allen and Hollis Price were followed by a Bryce Taylor triple for a 35-22 lead. Another even stretch ended just like the first quarter, with Allen scoring back-to-back two-pointer to extend Alba's advantage to its biggest yet, 46-29, at halftime.

Rush and Nesterov tried to spark a Krylia comeback after the break, but Alba was having none of it, and again looked to Allen for 4 points in a row that made it 56-37. By the time Marinovic and Lucca Staiger buried three-pointers to finish the third quarter, Alba had yet another high lead of 65-41. Still more triples, by Staiger and Dragicevic, paved the way to the game's utmost advantage, 27 points, which Alba hit several times in the final quarter on the way to an easy home win.

Head Coaches

PAVICEVIC, LUKA
Alba Berlin
"I think that in this game we had a clear look at the individual potential of Samara's team, but also a clear proof that strong individual quality and talent is not enough if it is not integrated in one unit. I think that we used the fact that our guests were shaken by the previous games, where they in my opinion played very well, but in the end did not connect it with a victory. We faced a team that had problems with our team game. For the most part, we ran our game very well, but in certain moments we also showed weaknesses, especially in defense. So even after a win like this, there is for us a lot of room to talk about and work on."

Players

MARINOVIC, MARKO
Alba Berlin
"We are in a good moment as a team and we showed that by playing very good in this game. Staying focused from the first to the last minute helped us to gain the win with this big margin. It was not that easy as it may look by the result. We had to fight throughout the whole game on defense to get our shots on offense."
RUSH, BRION
Krasnye Krylia
WIt was a difficult game for us. Alba played good and it is tough to win in their arena anyway. They came out aggressive on offense and defense, and I feel it took us a while to react. We should have been more aggressive and put more pressure on them. Now we need to win our next game and I hope playing at home will help us a lot."
