THE TAKE

BC Kalev/Cramo looks to returning to its winning ways against winless Ludwigsburg after suffering its first defeat in Group G. Coach Veselin Matic's Estonians are still joint-leaders in the group with a 2-1 record despite losing at home last week to Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas. Kalev shot just 38% from the field and turned the ball over 20 times while getting out-rebounded 45-35. Matic's team scored just 24 points in the first half in falling behind by 25 at the break. Power forward Kristjan Kangur and center Travis Reed were Kalev's leading scorers with 15 and 14 points, respectively. But the duo combined to hit just 7-of-19 baskets from inside the arc. And they couldn't stop the Spaniards on the boards as Gran Canaria grabbed 20 offensive rebounds - off-setting just 42% shooting while taking 15 more shots. Matic knows his team must handle and rebound the ball better to move to 3-1. Ludwigsburg meanwhile has yet to win a game after losing at ASCO Slask Wroclaw. Coach Silvano Poropat's team allowed the Polish team to shoot 67% and committed 19 turnovers. The Germans shot 54% from the field, spurred on by 14-of-21 (67%) from downtown, which helped them in a big third quarter to tighten the game. But Poropat's team gave up 35 points in the fourth. Small forward Frank Young paced the Ludwigsburg attack with 20 points (with six three-pointers) while shooting guard Brandon Woudstra had his second straight game with 20 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and four steals. All told, five players scored in double figures, including shooting guard Jason Dourisseau's 14 points. But Poropat did not have available reserve power forward Michel Ferreira, who provides the team an emotional boost off the bench. Ludwigsburg must get more production from its bench - and will need Ferreira - to collect its first ever ULEB Cup victory.

BC Kalev/Cramo joined a three-way tie atop the Group G standings by downing EnBW Ludwigsburg 92-88 in Tallinn, Estonia, on Tuesday night. Kalev is now tied with Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas and Asco Slask Wroclaw for the top spot in Group G, while Ludwigsburg is in last place at 0-4. Travis Reed had an outstanding shooting performance scoring his first 12 two-point shots on the way to 27 points. He finished the game with 13-for-16 two-pointers and 7 rebounds. Valmo Kriisa added 20 points, while Kristjan Kangur had 19 on 8-for-10 two-point shooting and 7 rebounds. Anthony Richardson led Ludwigsburg with 22 points. Ronnie Ross added 13, Coleman Collins had 12, Brandon Woudstra 11 and Chad Prewitt 10. Kalev seemed to have full control of the game, leading 85-76 midway through the fourth quarter. Ricahardon led a 0-7 Ludwigsburg run that brought the guests back in the game at 85-83, but a critical three-pointer by Kriisa and a free throw by Mateo Kedzo allowed the Kalev fans to celebrate yet another well-deserved win.

EnBW Ludwigsburg started on fire at Saku Arena in Tallinn by taking an 8-14 lead through a Richardson mid-range jumper of, before Reed tied the score at 18-18 with two minutes left in the first quarter. Mateo Kedzo gave BC Kalev its first lead at 20-18 and the opening period ended 22-21. Jason Dourisseau capped a 2-10 Ludwigsburg charge early in the second quarter to make it 26-31, but the hosts took the lead again through Reed, who scored 6 points in a row to give the hosts a 45-41 lead at halftime. Back from the lockers, Kristian Kangur gave a 50-41 cushion to BC Kalev, but EnBW did not give up and fueled by Richardson and Woudstra were back on track, 57-53, with four minutes left in the third quarter. Kriisa and Reed kept Ludwigsburg down and built a 74-62 lead after 30 minutes. Frank Young and Chad Prewitt hit from downtown to keep EnBW in the picture at 77-73 at the midway point of the last quarter. Kangur scored from mid range to extend the difference to 85-76, but the game wasn't over and the guests sparked a 7-0 run capped by Richardson to cut the margin to 85-83 entering the thrilling final minute. Kriisa scored from beyond the arc, Richardson missed his attempts and Mateo Kedzo scored from the foul line to seal the 89-83 win.

Head Coaches

MATIC, VESELIN
BC Kalev/Cramo
"After losing the last couple of games we needed this win badly. That is why we felt pressured and had a bad start. The key to the victory was Valmo Kriisa's three at the end. I'm glad we won."
POROPAT, SILVANO
Ludwigsburg
"We started out good but allowed Kalev to come in the game, even though, they had a bad start. We could not defend them today. So we need to keep on working hard to get better."

Players

ARBET, GREGOR
BC Kalev/Cramo
"I'm very happy that we won because we had just lost two close games in a row, so we really needed this win. We knew this team would play a fast game and at first we struggled with that. But eventually we still pulled it through."
PREWITT, CHAD
Ludwigsburg
"It was a tough game but we ended up losing. They are tough inside and on the boards. That cost us the game today."
