Ludwigsburg goes hunting for its first victory in Group G while at the same time hoping to spoil Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas's chances of pulling into sole possession of first place. Coach Silvano Poropat's Ludwigsburg side suffered its sixth straight defeat, losing at Asvel to fall to 0-6. The German side was out-scored 30-14 in the third period and could not mount a fourth period comeback despite committing just 10 turnovers and holding Asvel to just 44% shooting. But Ludwigsburg lost the battle of the boards 43-34 and clearly had the short end at the free throw line as Asvel hit 20-of-32 (63%) compared to Ludwigsburg's 8-of-12 (67%). Point guard Heiko Schaffartzik's 12 points paced four starters in double figures. Ludwigsburg is basically playing for pride now. But there is still plenty at stake for Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas. Coach Salvador Maldonado's Spanish side improved to 4-2 with a home victory over Slask Wroclaw. Gran Canaria committed just 9 turnovers in the game and Maldonado's defense held Slask to just 42% from the field. The 20-year-old center Joel Freeland had his best game of the tournament with 15 points and 6 rebounds while forward Sergio Perez and Sitapha Savane both scored 11 points off the bench. Maldonado had to be happy with his team securing the victory despite shooting guard Carl English hitting just 3-of-12 for 9 points - 9 points below his average. With the two other 4-2 teams facing the two 3-3 sides in this group, Gran Canaria could come out of this week's action with a one-game lead on all four teams. Gran Canaria used an amazing shooting performance in the fourth quarter to outscore the hosts 36-20 and eran the victory, which keeps the islanders tied for the top spot in the group along with Asvel Basket at 5-2. Meanwhile EnBW Ludwigsburg remains winless. Next week Gran Cnaria hosts BC Kalev/Cramo, while Ludwigsburg welcomes Asco Slask Wroclaw. Joel Freeland nailed 15 for the winners, Sergio Perez added 12 and Roberto Guerra and Marcus Norris added 10 apiece. Ronald Ross was the main contributor for Ludwigsburg with 17 points, Heiko Schaffartzik collected 12 and Coleman Collins posted 11 points and 8 rebounds. Freeland led Gran Canaria to an early 5-9 lead, but Schaffartzik put Ludwigsburg in front 10-9 by scoring from downtown. However the game remained balanced when Jason Dourisseau hit from mid range to tie it at 15-15.
