Two classic continental powerhouses meet again for the 33rd time – and the first since last season's semifinal. CSKA is still without Victor Khryapa and Demetris Nichols, so Andrey Vorontsevich will see most of the playing time at power forward against Alex Tyus and Brian Randle. Kyle Hines and Sasha Kaun face a physical battle against Aleks Maric and Sofoklis Schortsanitis at center. Jeremy Pargo returns to Moscow to face his former team and faces an exciting matchup against Milos Teodosic, who has been in great shape recently. Both teams have a lot of fire power at the wings - Vitaly Fridzon, Manu Markoishvili and Sonny Weems will try to use their shooting range and experience against Devin Smith, Guy Pnini and Sylven Landesberg, who have played together for years. CSKA is always the favorite at home, but Maccabi comes off a big home win and will try to keep its momentum going.

Quotes Head Coaches

CSKA Moscow
"Maccabi is the defending champion, one of the biggest teams in European competitions which always have high expectations. We don’t have much time to prepare, we started our preparations right after our Monday game, but this is life. Maccabi went through some changes but they continue to play high-quality basketball. Talking about the opponents’ game you start from the fact that they ran the floor, they execute on primary and secondary fastbreaks, they have a number of shooters like Smith, Pnini, Landesberg, Haynes, Linhart. Pargo is shooting well this season and he is really important for the team. They can play big, they can use smaller lineup with Pnini at 4. With Sofo under the basket they have quality to pass the ball inside. To sum up this short analysis, you can say that the team is well balanced, it can spread the floor and able to play effective inside-outside game. We are certainly improving and our main task for now is to play consistently for longer stretches during the game. I’d like also to call our fans again to come and support us. As I said before the season they have to set their expectations and show the team that they really want us to perform well and to bring them big wins."
Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv
"We're heading off to Moscow for what will be our most difficult away game in the first round of the Euroleague season. It will be challenging since we're going without Smith and Tyus, two of our key players. We're aware of CSKA's strength, they're an experienced team at the highest levels of the game, with some of the best players in the Euroleague. We'll be ready mentally, and we'll need to be tough."

CSKA Moscow
"CSKA and Maccabi have a great history of games, their meetings always bring high expectations and spectacular basketball. They beat us on the way to the title last year so we definitely have something to prove here. I think it will be a difficult game. Even though David Blatt is gone they kept the system, core players and the same desire to fight."
Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv
"I want to win the game, I don't care what happens other than that. CSKA has a new coach, and I don't know him, but I'm guessing we'll see the same good CSKA team as always. It will be a completely different atmosphere from last time the two teams met, in the Final Four. We're going to come in and try to play as a team and win."
