THE TAKE

Turkish club Galatasaray Cafe Crown hopes to embark on a new era of success when it begins its Group C campaign as hosts to Akasvayu Girona. The Istanbul club went through various phases where it dominated Turkey, but the last phase was in the early 1990s. Coach Murat Ozyer guided Ulker Istanbul to the 2006 crown and he's put together a strong side ready to compete in the ULEB Cup. Huseyin Besok, Charles Gaines and Chris Owens bring European experience and Dee Brown comes on a mission to prove himself. Galatasaray is also off to a good start in the Turkish league. Classy Spanish side Akasvayu Girona, who won the FIBA EuroCup last season, comes to town on Wednesday. Pedro Martinez takes over the coaching reins and has to deal with plenty of expectations of possibly the fastest-rising team in Europe. The ULEB Cup debutants have started well in the Spanish League and Martinez has a great mix of veterans, including Arriel McDonald, Predrag Drobnjak and Darryl Middleton as well as promising Spanish center Marc Gasol.

Head Coaches

OZYER, MURAT
Galatasaray Cafe Crown
"After ten years, Galatasaray Cafe Crown has played in a European competition again. This situation gives deep pride to our team members and staff. In the team sports you have to wait until the end of the season to be able to talk about the success. We will show our real strength at the beginning of this December."
MARTINEZ, PEDRO
Akasvayu Girona
"It was a tough game. We are disappointed with the result. At the end of the game we had the chance to win the game with a simple three-point shot, but we couldn't. We will concentrate on our second game."

Players

BROWN, DEE
Galatasaray Cafe Crown
"It was a good game for the team. First quality win against a top opponent. We have to continue to improve as a team and continue to believe that we can win but overall we played good and I am very proud of the team."
MCDONALD, ARRIEL
Akasvayu Girona
"It was a good game. At the defense and offense the game was pretty much even. We had the chance to win the game at the end but we missed it."
