THE TAKE

Group D co-leaders Pamesa Valencia can lock up a 3-0 start if they can register their second victory at home as they welcome to Spain Anwil Wloclawek. Head coach Fotis Katsikaris' Valencia troops scored the final five points of the game in the last 21 seconds to clinch a tough road win against Nancy. The Spaniards got away with a victory despite not playing a great game - shooting just 44% from the floor and 70% from the foul line. But Valencia were able to control the ball, giving up just 10 turnovers on the road. Veteran power forward Dejan Milojevic came up big with 20 points and eight rebounds as the team survived a poor shooting night from the backcourt combo Shammond Williams and Ruben Douglas (a combined 9-of-25). Small forward Fred House did provide a big spark off the bench for the second straight game and he could be a key to the game against Wloclawek. Anwil come into the game at 1-1 after beating Deutsche Bank Skyliners on the road thanks to a late lineup miscue by the hosts. Head coach Ales Pipan's Polish team got the victory despite plenty of problems - including 43% shooting from the field, 55% from the foul line and 17 turnovers. Anwil continue to rely on their long distant shooters - taking 31 triples compared to 18 shots inside the arc. And that means their chances of winning on the road rest clearly on the touch of shooting guard Gerrod Henderson, power forward Zbigniew Bialek and point guard Andrzej Pluta. Center Alex Dunn also has to stay out of foul trouble as he represents Pipan's main rebounding force in the paint.

Pamesa Valencia stayed unbeaten in Group D by downing Anwil Wloclawek 78-58 at home on Tuesday. Pamesa improved to 3-0, ties with Khimki atop the standings, as both teams already have a two-game advantage over everyone else. Meanwhile, Anwil dropped to 1-2, and joins a three-way tie for the third place in Group C. Mindaugas Timinskas led the winners with 15 points on 3-for-3 two-pointers and 9-for-9 free throws while Ruben Douglas and Stanko Barac each added 11 for Pamesa. Zbigniew Bialek had 11 points for Anwil, Alex Dunn posted a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds while Bartlomiej Woloszyn and Gerrod Henderson also added 10 points for the guests. Anwil had a strong start and led 4-9 early, but Milojevic and Barac helped the hosts to regain the lead, 19-14, at the end of the first quarter. Barac and Rebraca dominated in the paint while Fred House scored for a double-digit Pamesa margin, 41-31, at halftime. Pamesa only allowed 4 points in the third quarter, as the hosts boosted their margin to 58-35 after 30 minutes and never looked back.

Henderson fed Woloszyn for a triple and added a big basket to get Anwil going, while Dunn scored twice inside for a 4-9 edge. Douglas and Dejan Milojevic stepped up for Pamesa, but Henderson and Dunn still kept Anwil ahead, 11-13. Milojevic had 4 points in a 8-1 run that Shammond Williams capped with free throws to make Pamesa get a 19-14 after 10 minutes. Douglas buried a triple and Barac added a power basket to keep the hosts' momentum going, 24-17. Zeljko Zagorac and Albert Oliver traded three-pointers, as Anwil called timeout at 29-20. Barac got the crowd involved with a big basket and a huge block, while Rebraca started to dominate in the point to gave Pamesa a 38-26 lead late in the first half. A final basket by Fred House allowed Pamesa to keep a double-digit lead, 41-31, at the break. Pamesa improved its defense after the break, as Anwil was limited to just 2 points in more than 7 minutes. Meanwhile, Timinskas followed a basket with free throws, igniting a mamooth 17-2 run in which Barac had 5 points to break the game open, 56-33, late in the third quarter. Pamesa tried a tall lineup with Victor Claver at small forward, as he scored off a steal for a 58-35 Pamesa margin after 30 minutes. Claver tried to provide some highlights to please the crowd, as Pamesa kept Rebraca on court to help him to regain his game rhythm. A 0-9 run that Zagorac capped with a free throw gave Anwil some hope, 62-48, with 4 minutes to go. Williams scored coming off the baseline and fed Timinskas for a big basket, enough for Pamesa to seal the win in style.

Head Coaches

KATSIKARIS, FOTIOS
Pamesa Valencia
"We made a good reaction after losing our Spanish League game. We made our best in the third quarter, with a good defense and heart. Avramov and Claver could play many minutes and I'm happy with what they made. Despite the situation in our group I think that Azovmash and Nancy can win more games and be in the top."
PIPAN, ALES
Anwil Wloclawek
"Congratulations to Pamesa and the coach for this victory. They deserved it and were a better team. We were good only in the first 8 minutes. In the rest we were very bad. I don't know what happened tonight. Probably the team has been afraid of a team like Pamesa. We have to find our game in order to come back in the competition."

Players

CLAVER, VICTOR
Pamesa Valencia
"We worked very hard tonight, with a lot of confidence, which allowed us to get an easy win. We knew we had to be focused that we all knew we cannot underestimate anyone, because every team can upset you at any time. We played with great intensity today, even when we allowed some easy baskets in the final minutes. Even with that, our intensity was the key tonight. It has been a game for those players who are not seeing that much playing time lately and that always gives everyone confidence. We have a deep team ready to face anyone."
DANIELS, ALAN
Anwil Wloclawek
"We knew Pamesa is a strong team, we didn't do what we were supposed to do, and we must watch our own mistakes to be solved in the next game. Our goal must be to come into the next round but we have to come back and work hard to get it."
