THE TAKE

Crvena Zvezda will try to lock up a Last 16 spot in Group F when it visits Dynamo Moscow on Tuesday at 15:00 CET, in the earliest game in Eurocup regular season's Week 5. Zvezda is tied atop the Group F standings with Benetton Gioco Digitale, each with a 3-1 record. Dynamo is still looking for its first win at 0-4 and therefore is out of the Last 16 race. It is a classic Eurocup showdown, as the teams will face each other for the eighth time since the competition was created in 2003. Zvezda broke a six-game losing streak against the Russian powerhouse with a 76-67 home win in regular season Game 1 behind 17 points from Tadija Dragicevic. The forward offers three-point range and talent to an interesting frontcourt that also features blue-collar center Elmedin Kikanovic, old-school big man Vladimir Stimac and Oliver Stevic, who comes off the bench to give strength and rebounding skills. Stimac will most probably see extended playing time to use his size against experienced center Aleksey Savrasenko. Kikanovic has a tough test against Aleksey Zhukanenko, who posted Eurocup career-best numbers - 15 points and 13 rebounds - against Benetton in Game 4. Meanwhile, Dragicevic will test his versatility and deep range against Sergey Monya. Dynamo opts for a small starting lineup featuring Sergey Bykov, Dimitry Khvostov and the recently signed Aleksey Shved. Bykov will test his shooting skills against Filip Videnov, Khvostov is ready for an interesting matchup against Vuk Radivojevic, while Shved will try to use his speed and talent against Boris Bakic and Mike Taylor. Dimitri Domani will have the tough mission to guard Zvezda's natural-born mismatch Nemanja Bjelica. Zvezda must play up-tempo and use its bigger rotation to add an important win - even though the team will advance with a Cholet loss in Treviso. Dynamo hopes to please its fans with a prestigious win in its final Eurocup home game this season.

Zvezda now has a 4-1 record and will automatically qualify if Cholet (2-2) loses one more game. Dynamo fell to 0-5 but had already been eliminated from Last 16 conention. Oliver Stevic scored the winning lay up with few seconds remaining in the game and Boris Bakic stole the last ball to preent Dynamo from taking a potential game-tying or -winning shot. Mike Taylor led the winners with 22 points. Tadja Dragicevic and Nemanja Bjeica aded 12 apiece, Mario Keselj and Vladimir Stimac 11 each one for Crvena Zvezda. Stevic finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sergey Bykov led the way for Dynamo Moscow, scoring 17 points. Alexey Shved followed with 15, Dmitry Khvostov 14, Alexey Savrasenko 12 with 9 boards and Yuri Vasiliev 10.

Bykov capped an 11-3 start by Dynamo but C. Zvezda reacted to get back within 13-8 with a triple of Keselj. Savrasenko used his size to score 4 easy points and guard Damir Zabirov provided a double-digit margin, 19-9, from the foul line. Stimac from beyond the arc and Tadja Dragicevic with a layup got C. Zvezda closer again until Zabirov fixed the final 25-19 score at the end of the first quarter. The guests took their first lead early in the second quarter when Taylor nailed a three-pointer at 25-27. Stimac extended C. Zvezda's cushion to 27-31 before Alexey Zhukanenko put Dynamo in front again at 33-32 at the midway point of the quarter. Dmitry Domani assisted Savrasenko to make it 42-37 but soon Keselj from completed an 11-2 run from three-point land to make it 44-46 for Crvena Zvezda. A triple by Khvostov, however, gave a 47-46 advantage do Dynamo at halftime.

In the first 6 minutes of the third quarter the lead changed hands three times and the score was tied twice, finally at 58-59, when Filip Videnov completed a three-point-play. C. Zvezda improved its defensive intensity by pushing Dynamo to force a pair of misses while Taylor supplied a six-point cushion at 58-64 late in the quarter. Ilya Syrovatko tied on 64-64 from the foul line for Dynamo, then a layup and additional free throw by Shved fixed a 69-67 lead for the home team after 30 minutes. The game remained close in the first part of the final quarter with Dynamo still leading 76-74 with 5 minutes remaining. Khvostov boosted the hosts from downtown to forge a 79-74 advantage, but back-to-back layups by Taylor and Bjelica plus the latter's additional free throw, gave an 83-84 margin to C. Zvezda with 2 minutes left. Bykov tied it, 86-86, early in the last minute but after a timeout, Dragicevic assisted Stevic for an easy layup giving a huge victory to the Serbian side.

Head Coaches

BAZAREVICH, SERGEY
Dynamo Moscow
"This game was mainly the game of prestige for us and preparation for the games of the Russian League. Of course Monya's absence, who was injured at practice five days ago, reflected on our actions. We should have understood how we would play without our key player. Sometimes it was not bad and all players were resultative. But at the end of the game we faced the lack of experience again."
TRIFUNOVIC, ALEKSANDAR
Crvena Zvezda
"I've been coaching the team for six days only now. We have a lot of young players. The beginning of our game was nervous. Besides, Radivojevic was injured in the first quarter and Videnov was not ready enough as well. But I’m glad we had such an important victory."
