THE TAKE

Ludwigsburg hopes to finally grab its first victory in Group G as it welcomes ASCO Slask Wroclaw. Coach Silvano Poropat's Ludwigsburg dropped to 0-7 with a home loss to Gran Canaria before the holiday break. Ludwisgburg shot 42% from the floor and committed 19 turnovers while Gran Canaria went for 48% for the game. The German side also made just 8-of-16 free throws compared to Gran Canaria's 23-of-30. Shooting guard Ronald Ross led Ludwigsburg with 17 points while playmaker Heiko Schaffartzik had 12 points. Poropat's team has averaged a losing margin of 12.2 points but would love nothing more than to give its home fans a victory to celebrate. ASCO Slask Wroclaw meanwhile comes into the game after losing at home on late missed free throws against Panionios to drop to 3-4. That meant the exit for head coach Andrzej Adamek, who was replaced by Rimas Kurtinaitis. Both teams shot lights out - Slask 61% to 53% for Panionios - but Slask made just 25-of-36 free throws (69%) and committed 16 turnovers against Panionios, which gave up the ball just 6 times. Shooting guard Dawan Robinson led the way for Wroclaw with 17 points while center Jared Homan added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as five players scored in double figures in the loss. Kurtinaitis's team is tied for fourth place - one game behind Panionios and two behind co-leaders Asvel and Gran Canaria. A loss in Germany would make his task of reaching the elimination round much more difficult.

EnBW Ludwigsburg registered its first-ever ULEB Cup win by downing Asco Slask Wroclaw 81-70 at home in Group G on Tuesday. Ludwigsburg improved to 1-7 and has no chance to advance to the elimination rounds. Nate Harris led the winners with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Brandon Woudstra and Heiko Schaffartzik each added 15 points while Ronnie Ross had 13 for Ludwigsburg. Dawan Robinson had 17 points for Slask, Jared Homan added 16 while Oliver Stevic got 13 for the guests, whose only lead came at 21-23. Schaffartzik went on fire, nailing 4 three-pointers in a 17-2 run that put Ludwigsburg ahead for good, 38-25. Homan and Kamil Chanas managed to get Slask back in the game, 52-46, but an unstoppable Harris allowed the hosts to boost its margin to 62-50 after 30 minutes. Slask could not rally in the fourth quarter, allowing Ludwigsburg to cruise to a well-deserved win.

Jason Dourisseau and Michel Ferreira got Ludwigsburg going with consecutive layups while Ross added back-to-back baskets for a 8-2 lead. Woudstra stroke from downtown while another put-back basket by Dourisseau gave the hosts a 14-4 margin. Dominik Tomczyk stepped up 5 quick points, igniting a 2-11 run that Stevic capped with consecutive baskets to get Slask within 16-15. Harris found his first points while Woudstra sank a triple for a 21-17 Ludwigsburg edge after 10 minutes. A 0-6 run that Chanas capped with a layup gave Slask its first lead, 21-23. It didn't last long, however, as Schaffartzik buried 4 three-pointers in a 17-2 run that Ross capped with his own shot from downtown, good for a 38-25 Ludwigsburg margin. Free throws brought Slask within 38-31 while Harris and Robinson traded baskets to fix the halftime score at 40-33. Woudstra scored off a steal while Ross added free throws to make the hosts restore a double-digit lead, 44-34. Chanas and Stevic tried to change things for Slask, but foul shots by Harris and another basket by Harris still kept Ludwigsburg ahead, 50-40. Chanas found some help from Homan to get Slask closer at 52-46. Coleman Collins and Harris combined for 4 quick points while three-pointers by Schaffartzik and Harris gave the hosts a 62-50 margin after 30 minutes. Robinson singlehandedly tried to get Slask back in the game, but free throws by Woudstra helped Ludwigsburg to stay way ahead, 68-57. Stefan Fahrad fired in a triple while Ferreira scored inside to seal the outcome, 73-59, with 4 minutes to go. Slask did not recover and all Ludwigsburg fans celebrate their team's first-ever ULEB Cup win!
