THE TAKE

BC Hemofarm Stada hopes to remain among the leaders in Group C as the Serbian team plays host to winless Hanzevast Capitals. Head coach Goran Nikolic's team used a big third quarter to beat CSU Asesoft at home and improve to 2-1 - the same record as three other teams in the group. Center Vladan Vukosavljevic was impressive in the post with 28 points and eight rebounds; while small forward Goran Jagodnik was the weapon outside - 18 points on 4-of-5 three-pointers; and point guard Nebojsa Joksimovic filled in the gaps with 12 points, five rebounds and eight assists. All told, Nikolich's team shot 52% from the floor. But the Serbians did not convince on the defensive side of the ball, as the Romanians shot 47% from the field and turned the ball over just four times. The key for the Serbs was slowing down centers Bojan Obradovic and Virgil Carutasu, who combined for 5-of-21 from inside the arc. The Dutch side Hanzevast meanwhile dropped to 0-3 after a convincing 33-point loss at Akasvayu Girona. Head coach Josep Claros's team allowed the Spaniards to shoot 65% from the field and was out-rebounded 44-25 while watching them dish out 26 assists. One of the few positives for Claros was his team forcing 22 turnovers. Offensively, there is still plenty to improve upon as Hanzevast shot just 35% from the field. Center Guido Grunheid tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals while small forward Kevin Melson had 13 points and shooting guard Rogier Jansen chipped in 12 points off the bench. While Hemofarm is not of the same caliber as Girona, Hanzevast's chances still rely more on the Serbs struggling than Claros's team playing well.

Milos Borisov - Hemofarm Milos Borisov led four players in double figures as BC Hemofarm Stada improved to 3-1 in Group C with a comfortable 102-77 victory at home over Hanzevast Capitals. Borisov scored a team-high 16 points off the bench while Clinton Johnson collected 12 points and seven assists for the Serbs, who also got 11 points from Rawle Marshall and 12 from Nebojsa Joksimovic. All 12 Hemofarm players scored at least one point and grabbed a rebound as the Serbs put away Hanzevast with a 25-12 second period. With 22 points, Kevin Melson did all he could for Hanzevast but the Dutch team dropped to 0-4 in Group C. Raoul Heinen added 14 points and Guido Grunheid scored 12 points.

Kevin Melson - Hanzevast CapitalsMelson opened the scoring for Hanzevast before Johnson's three-pointer gave Hemofarm a 6-2 advantage. The lead switched hands four times before Goran Jagodnik's three-ball helped push Hemofarm's cushion to 22-17. Stefan Markovic's basket made it 26-21 which Pavel Englicky cut to 26-23 after one period. Markovic started the second quarter with a score and his two foul shots pushed the advantage to 33-25. Joksimovic's foul shot extended the cushion to 36-27 before Rogier Jansen trimmed the lead to seven points at 38-31. But Joksimovic scored seven points as Hemofarm closed the half with a 13-4 run for a 51-35 lead at the break. Borisov opened the scoring in the third and the Serbs began to pull away with a 12-4 run for a 63-39 advantage. Borisov continued his superb third quarter with a three-point play which pushed the lead to 30 points - 73-43. Hanzevast tightened the game somewhat over the remainder of the third. Melson scored a basket and Grunheid knocked down a last-second three-pointer to eventually cut the deficit to 79-58 going into the fourth. Melson scored the first basket of the final period but Marko Simonovic's basket made it 83-60. Grunheid was able to cut it to 83-66 but Simonovic knocked down a three-ball to re-establish the 20-point gap with seven minutes left. And the Dutch side was not able to get closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

Head Coaches

NIKOLIC, MIROSLAV
BC Hemofarm Stada
"We did expect the victory, this is the weakest team in the group. They played aggressively and fought and I was afraid that some of my players could be injured. We got this match thanks to our quality. There's no time to relax because a difficult match in Zadar is waiting for us. We can parry each partner now but it still doesn't guarantee the victory."
CLAROS, PEP
Hanzevast Capitals
"We couldn't expect that we can beat Hemofarm in a road game with such a bad defense. We had many mistakes and fouls one after another. It was obvious that Hemofarm was a better quality team, but we must fight anyway."

Players

BORISOV, MILOS
BC Hemofarm Stada
"We didn't have a good advantage from the start as we thought but in the second half we played with more strength and came to 25 points of difference at the end."
GRUNHEID, GUIDO
Hanzevast Capitals
"We didn't play at the expected level and I think that 20 points of difference is too much."
