Chorale Roanne got closer to survive the Turkish Airlines Euroleague first Qualifying Round by edging Alba Berlin 86-79 at home in the first leg of their two-way series on Tuesday. As such, Roanne has a seven-point lead in this series but Alba hosts the decisive game in the German capital on Friday. Pape Amagou paced the winners with 22 points on 4-of-5 three-pointers. Uche Nsonwu added 15, Alex Gordon had 13 while KC Rivers and Souleyman Diabate each got 12 for Roanne. Julius Jenkins led Alba with 18 points but went scoreless in the fourth quarter. Tadija Dragicevic added 14, Derrick Allen had 13 while Marko Marinovic got 10 for the guests, that led 27-36 midway through the fourth quarter. Amagou and Nsonwu fueled an 8-0 run that allowed Roanne to get a 46-43 lead at the break. Roanne led almost all the way in the second half and a layup bu Nsonwu made it a 13-point game, 81-68, with 4 minutes left. Marinovic and All-Eurocup forward Immanuel McElroy fueled an 0-11 run that brought Alba back to life but Rivers had 5 points in the final minute to keep Roanne ahead in the series.

Jenkins got Alba started with a layup but Amagou and Rivers soon allowed Roanne to get a 4-2 lead. Dragicevic struck from downtown, as Roanne striggled to get Rivers involved in the early going. Allen followed a put-back layup with a jumper to give Alba a 4-9 edge, after a 0-7 run. Amagou struck from downtown in a 6-0 run that Nsonwu capped with free throws for a 10-10 tie. Jenkins stepped up with a jumper and even when Diabate scored down low, Dragicevic soon put Alba back ahead, 12-14. Patrick Femerling hit free throws but Gordon bettered that with a triple for a 15-16 Roanne deficit. Jenkins stayed unstoppable but Mipoka and Amagou kept the hosts as close as 20-21. A three-pointer by Sven Schultze and a layup by Jenkins allowed Alba to keep a 22-26 edge after 10 minutes.

Jenkins struck from downtown early in the second quarter and Dragicevic scored down low for a 25-31 Alba lead. Dunn tried to change things with a layup but Yassin Idbihi matched it in the other end and Dragicevic downed a three-pointer to boost the guests' lead to 27-36. Gordon stayed on fire with an uncontested layup and even when Idbihi dunked it, Nsonwu copied him in the other end to get Roanne within 31-38. Nsonwu scored again but Marinovic silenced the crowd with a triple that made it an eight-point game, 33-41. Roanne found a go-to guy in Philippe Braud, who followed a bomb from downtown with a jumper to get the crowd involved at 38-41. Marinovic sank free throws but Roanne was all over the place in defense. A layup by Nsonwu ignited an 8-0 run in which Amagou had 4 points and that Diabate capped with a layup to give the hosts a 46-43 lead at halftime.

Dragicevic and Nsonwu traded layups immediately after the break, as Alba improved its defense once it came back from the locker rooms. Amagou scored again but a layup by Jenkins ignited a 0-7 run highlighted by McElroy's three-pointer to get Alba back ahead, 50-52. Roanne found a go-to guy in Amagou, who nailed a three-pointer just when his team needed it most. Jean Michel Mipoka added a layup and Gordon took over with a three-point play that set the crowd on fire at 58-52, after a 8-0 run. Jenkins tried to change things with a jumper but he didn't find any help around. Rivers scored again and soon added a big triple that boosted Roanne's lead to 63-54. Allen shined with a power layup and Schultze added a put-back basket but Diabate beat the buzzer with a three-pointer that restored a 67-58 Roanne lead after 30 minutes.

Allen scored around the basket early in the fourth quarter, as Alba regained its momentum in defense. Price hit a jumper and Dragicevic soon brought the guests within 69-64. Roanne struggled to score until Diabate stepped up with consecutive baskets to give the hosts a 73-66 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Amagou soon struck from downtown to give Roanne its first double-digit lead, 76-66, with under 6 minutes left. Alba was not done, however, but even when Allen scored again, a red hot Amagou bettered that with a triple and Nsonwu added a layup for a 81-68 score. Marinovic rescued Alba with his second triple and followed Femerling's easy basket with a layup for a 81-75 deficit. Roanne struggled to score right when it mattered and back-to-back baskets by McElroy made it a two-point game, 81-79, after a 0-11 run. Rivers nailed a key triple already in the final minute and soon added free throws to make Roanne get a seven-point lead, as both teams will be on their way to Berlin for what promises to be a big showdown.
