The Take

Two teams that had never been in such dire situations ever in the EuroLeague will play for survival on Thursday when EA7 Emporio Armani Milan (7-15) hosts FC Barcelona Lassa (8-14). This will be the eighth meeting between both sides this century, as Barca is leading by 3-4 at this moment. In their last meeting, Barcelona won at home, 89-75, in Round 14 behind 19 points by Ante Tomic. For Milan, Rakim Sanders shined with 27 points. Sanders leads the hosts this season (13.7 ppg.), followed by Kruno Simon (11.1 ppg. and 4.0 apg.) and Ricky Hickman (9.9 ppg. and 3.3 apg.). For the guests, Tyrese Rice is the main man (14.3 ppg. plus 5.4 apg.), with help from Petteri Koponen (10.1 ppg.) and Tomic (8.5 ppg. and 5.6 rpg.). Milan will have in its favor the fourth best offense in the league (82.9 ppg.) pit against the weakest one (72.4 ppg.), but the catch is that the hosts have the weakest defense in the competition (88.5 ppg.) and Barca has the fifth best one (76.0 ppg.) so the two different styles of these teams will clash for an unpredictable outcome that will ultimately depend on the psychological battle between two wounded sides. Milan has won three of its last five games and will try to use the home court advantage to add another victory to escape from last place in the standings. Barcelona is currently on a four-game losing streak, its longest ever in a single EuroLeague season, and wants to find the spark to recovery as soon as possible. The regular season is entering its last quarter and both teams still have mathematical chances to make the playoffs, but the one losing this clash will probably have to start thinking about the next season.
