The Take

It's the first ever meeting between two teams who are each in search of their first win of the season. The visiting Polish champion Stelemt Zielona Gora is coming off a narrow home loss in the season opener against Zalgiris Kaunas. FC Barcelona Lassa was defeated on the road at Pinat Karsiyaka on the opening day. Barcelona has not lost to a Polish club since the 1960, stringing together 16 consecutive wins in those contests, and will try to continue that streak and avoid its first ever 0-2 start in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Barcelona's playmaking duties are shared by Tomas Satoransky and Carlos Arroyo, but Pau Ribas also spends time at point guard. Paired in the backcourt with the wingers Alex Abrines, Brad Oleson and Euroleague's all-time leading scorer Juan Carlos Navarro, they will be challenged with a dynamic but experienced Zielona Gora's backcourt that features Dee Bost, Lukasz Koszarek, J.R. Reynolds, Przemyslaw Zamojski and Karol Gruszecki. The Polish champs turn to three more veterans inside - Adam Hrycaniuk, Szymon Szewczyk and Dejan Borovnjak – while have versatility at forward positions. Vlad Moldoveanu creates space with his range, Nemanja Djurisic battles hard on the boards, and small forward Mateusz Ponitka does a lot on both ends of the floor. However, they will have their work cut out for them, as Barcelona has plenty of mobility and range in its frontline with Justin Doellman and Stratos Perperoglou – team's top two scorers in Round 1 – while the three-time all-Euroleague center Ante Tomic, and a pair of powerful big men Shane Lawal and Samardo Samuels, fill and dominate the paint.

Quotes Head Coaches

PASCUAL, XAVI
FC Barcelona Lassa
"The first Euroleague at home is always special. Zielona Gora is a competitive team and dangerous on both ends of the court. Lawal and Doellman will be doubtful until the last moment, so we have to be ready. After the first loss we are forced to win this game now. In the Euroleague it's very important to stand your ground as a home team."

"I want to keep contributing. I debuted last week, but it wasn't a good game for us. Now we have another important game in front of us and we have to win it, no matter what."

Fourth quarter: down to the final minute!

Szewczyk scored down low early in the fourth quarter but Samuels answered with a power layup. Barcelona had started to run down the game tempo, using longer possessions with Arroyo and Ribas in the backcourt. Szewczyk added another layup and soon added a three-pointer from the top of the key that forced Barcelona to stop the game at 66-64. A huge fast break layup by Ponitka tied it up, 66-66, with 6 minutes remaining. Barcelona kept missing shots, as the game tempo belonged to the guests due to their outstanding defense. PASCUAL, XAVI
FC Barcelona Lassa
"We are happy for this win on an up-and-down night for us, that is the way I would define it. We had a bad start on offense and defense and that opening 2-12 run conditioned the entire game. Our effort allowed us to change the game and return to it by playing smarter on offense and getting to control the game. There was a moment at the end of the third quarter and in the beginning the fourth quarter in which we didn't do well on offense. We stopped scoring and the game started to get complicated, which led to a close finish. We were able to win behind three good defensive stands, which is always important. It was hard for us to find the way, but the team bounced back, which was difficult, but needed. Like I said, we are happy for this important win."
FILIPOVSKI, SASO
Stelmet Zielona Gora
"I think that we played a good game but Barcelona is a team which quickly punishes every mistake. We especialy made mistaks at boxing out in key moments of the games - we lost rebounds off a free throw three times. Even when we were prepared to be consistent, which didn't executive at a high level, also because of Barcelona's strength. Congratulations also to my players. They give their best even when they made technical mistakes. We were close to surprise Barcelona but we didn't, so I have to congratulate my colleague Xavi (Pascual). I wish him and Barcelona all the best. Our job is to go back to the gym and work hard."

Players

LAWAL, SHANE
FC Barcelona Lassa
"We got a bad start to the first quarter and third quarter wasn't so good either. They are a good team and made a lot of tough shots. We had to play better defense and execute better in the half court. You know, it is early in the season, we are a lot of new guys and are learning how to play together. I am sue we will keep improving throughout the season."
MOLDOVEANU, VLAD
Stelmet Zielona Gora
"It was a tough game, but we believedin our chances to beat Barcelona. Unfortunately, this is the second close game that we lose in the final minute. We believe in ourselves and will just keep working hard to get better. Congratulations to Barcelona for the win."
