The Take

The third of three Game 3s in the playoffs in Istanbul will see Darussafaka Dogus host Real Madrid on Wednesday. The hosts come off a Game 2 victory in the Spanish capital to steal home-court advantage away from Los Blancos and they must now defend their home floor to make it count. Thus far the series has been defines by spectacular point guard play with Brad Wanamaker starring for Darussafaka and Sergio Llull for Madrid. Forward Will Clyburn has also excelled for the hosts, while center Ante Zizic playd a key role in his team’s victory. For Madrid, center Gustavo Ayon has been playing at an elite level, but no other Madrid player has totaled more than 16 points in the first two games. In contrast, five Darussafaka players have totaled at least 19 points. The floor-stretching ability of power forward Luke Harangody and the dynamic play of big man Marcus Slaughter, who missed most of the regular season to injury, have also been important for Coach David Blatt’s team. Madrid will look for teenage sensation Luka Doncic and former All-EuroLeague players Rudy Fernandez and Anthony Randolph to return to form to give Coach Pablo Laso’s men a better chance. While both team possess depth and master tacticians, the head-to-head duel between Wanamaker and Llull may ultimately be what determines the outcome of the much-anticipated Game of the Week!

Head Coaches

BLATT, DAVID
Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul
“Certainly it’s good to be coming back home with an even record right now, because it was very important to win at least one game in Madrid and we were able to do that. Now we’re at home. We hope to take advantage of our home court. No big change in terms of our rivals. We know ver well who we are playing against and what a talented team they are. And we know very well what they are capable of. We’ll continue to be humble and hungry.”
LASO, PABLO
Real Madrid
"The first two games were close and each team showed different weapons. They are great in the one-on-one and always look for the best option. They started both games hot and that boosted their confidence. We knew how to close the opening game but they came back to win in the second. We must get used to their different style and be ready from tip-off to play a complicated game. Our team is our main strength and small details make our collective offense and defense stand out. Trey Thompkins has a slight problem, but he's travelling with us."

Players

WILBEKIN, SCOTTIE
Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul
“We are now 1-1 against Real Madrid. We got back with one win in their court. Who can ask for a better position! Now we’re in our place and we have to try defend home court. Home court doesn’t guarantee a win, it’s still going to be a another tough game. During the season we beat almost all of the top teams. So we don’t have a reason to be concerned. We just want to come out and play the best we can. When we do, we can beat anybody.”
MACIULIS, JONAS
Real Madrid
"The team is fine and focused. We worked well this week and made the adjustments needed. Our second game was not good but we must keep at our style and try to win as in the opening game. Darussafaka is a good team, they are solid and they managed to win one away, but we have to try to do the same now."

Real Madrid vs. Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul

• Back in Round 12, Darussafaka rallied from an early double-digit deficit to top Madrid 81-68 on its home floor. That is the largest loss Madrid suffered this season. Brad Wanamaker scored 27 points on 4-of-6 three-point shooting to lead the winners. Felipe Reyes paced Madrid with 16 points.

He played under Coach Pablo Laso, and was a teammate of eight current Madrid players: Rudy Fernandez, Andres Nocioni, Jonas Maciulis, Felipe Reyes, Gustavo Ayon, Jaycee Carrol, Dontaye Draper and Sergio Llull. Slaughter is also a passionate supporter of the Real Madrid football team.
