The Take

The series changes neighborhoods in Moscow on Wednesday when Khimki Moscow Region hosts CSKA Moscow in Game 3. CSKA leads the best-of-five series 2-0 and needs just one more win to punch its ticket to the Final Four Belgrade. However, things were not as easy for CSKA as one might think from the overall series record. Khimki has kept both games close. In fact, it was dominating at the break in Game 2 and the winners could only seal the victory with free throws in the last seconds. With notable absences by the injured Nando De Colo and Kyle Hines, CSKA relied on a superb Sergio Rodriguez (26 points and 10 assists) to carry the weight in Game 2 together with Cory Higgins (19) and Will Clyburn (16). Khimki has a big obstacle with CSKA's deep roster, which managed to limit Alexey Shved to a season-low 12 points in Game 2. The guests had to turn to Anthony Gill (24 points) as their main offensive reference, and he managed to make it a close game for 40 minutes. Now Khimki will try to rely on its home-court factor for a first playoff win. De Colo will be out for Game 3 for sure, but it's uncertain whether Hines will play or not, and that is no small detail. Khimki will try to play its game and create more open options for Shved, who got stuck at 2 of 9 three-point shooting in Game 2. CSKA averages 11 points more per game than Khimki, but on all other fronts, the season averages are rather close, so the hosts have to make the most of it. Expect Khimki to play with all its heart to try to survive one more day, but CSKA is in a great situation and knowing that it has three chances to advance, which can take some pressure off its shoulders. It's all or nothing in Moscow for Game 3!
