Francesco Candussi - Virtus Siena, 2011 Rome NIJTVirtus Siena had its second win in Day 1 of the Citta di Roma Tournament with a 75-53 triumph over Acea Virtus Roma on Tuesday evening in Rome, Italy. Siena climbed to a 2-0 record in Group A and stay in the race for a spot in the title game. Roma fell to 0-2 and will play the classification games. Marco Cucco scored 13 points for the winners followed by Corrado Bianconi with 12, Amadeo Tessitori with 11 and 14 rebounds while Francesco Candussi added 11 points as well. Marco Giancarli was the top player for Roma with 14 points. Siena showed its dominance already in the first part of the game by taking a 25-14 lead with the first bucket of the second quarter as Candussi scored around the rim. Roma didn't find the path move closer until mid-way in the third quarter when a set of three pointers created a 41-41 tie but that's as close as it got. Candussi with five points in a row capped a 13-0 run that decided the game and eliminated Roma from the race. Tomorrow Siena will take on Fenerbache-Ulker while Roma will face Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv.
