THE TAKE

Fresh off its first Euroleague victory, Neptunas readies for another immediate challenge. Unbeaten group leader Olympiacos visits Lithuania this week. Neptunas rode terrific passing, excellent shooting and effective rebounding to victory last week and will need to play just as well this time to do it again. Deividad Gailius has emerged as Neptunas’s No. 1 offensive option, though every player gets involved; all 10 Neptunas players last week scored a basket and dished an assist. Olympiacos is also deep with big names leading the way. Former MVP Vassilis Spanoulis and Matt Lojeski lead the attack from the wings, while big men Brent Petway, Othello Hunter and Bryant Dunston play key defensive roles. Even without a natural center, Donatas Zavackas and Simas Galdikas play well together in the frontcourt. Neptunas’s ability to stretch the floor could test the Reds defense. Point guard Mustafa Shakur is another important cog for the hosts, which if stopped by Olympiacos would decrease Neptunas’s chances of starting a winning streak.

Quotes Head Coaches

MAKSVYTIS, KAZYS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"The Olympacos team strength is evidenced by their titles. They won all the games so far in the Euroleague and they are the leaders of the group. There is no doubt that Olympiacos is favorite in this game. We will try to win in front of our fans."
TOMIC, MILAN
Olympiacos Piraeus
"Νeptunas is a team who plays with a lot of energy, especially at their court. They like to run at the fast break and shoot a lot of three-point shots. Either on the fast break or on set game. They play hard, they shoot a lot and I believe that we are well prepared for this game. We want to control the rhythm, to stop their fast breaks and not let them shoot a lot of three point shots."

Players

GAILIUS, DEIVIDAS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"Olympiacos is the strongest team in our group. They won all the games played in Euroleague this season. Vassilis Spanoulis is their best player and one of the best in Europe rightn ow. It will be a very difficult game for us. I hope our fans come to the game and support us. We will need it."
DUNSTON, BRYANT
Olympiacos Piraeus
"Neptunas is a typical Lithuanian team. They play fast, they shoot a lot and whenever they have the chance, they run on the fast break and they try to open the rhythm. We have to do our game. When you play away and especially against teams like Neptunas, you have to be 110% focused."
