The Take

Two teams from opposite ends of the table will collide in Spain when Unicaja Malaga hosts CSKA Moscow on Friday in the final scheduled game of Round 9. The game features CSKA’s top-ranked offense (88.4 ppg.) against an Unicaja squad that scores the fewest in the league (71.3 ppg.). Part of Unicaja’s struggles has been its league-low three-point shooting (28.5%). To that end, Nemanja Nedovic (14.2 ppg.), Ray McCallum and Alberto Diaz will all have to be in top form against CSKA’s trio of Nando De Colo (16.5 ppg.), Sergio Rodriguez (13.5 ppg.) and Cory Higgins (12.5 ppg.). Unicaja will turn to former CSKA big man James Augustine to help get it ready in the paint. He is joined by centers Giorgi Shermadini and Dejan Musli and power forward Jeff Brooks on a versatile frontline that will pit its skills against Kyle Hines (10.4 ppg.), Othello Hunter and Andrey Vorontsevich. CSKA forward Will Clyburn (12.8 ppg.) will present a challenge for Sasu Salin, Carlos Suarez and Adam Waczynski. Unicaja has played its best basketball at home, where its record is 2-2 and the losses are by a combined 6 points, so the visitors must be aware of Coach Joan Plaza’s men who have shown that on a good day they can compete and beat any team.

Head Coaches

PLAZA, JOAN
Unicaja Malaga
"In these negative streaks, competing in the following ones is a relief. We know these things can happen, but once in it, you want to get out of it as soon as possible. We learned some lessons lately. We know we cannot pace ourselves and we have to go for every game with everything we got. We are willing to do it now and with the desire to play as best as we can, but it's difficult to compete against powerhouses such as CSKA."
ITOUDIS, DIMITRIS
CSKA Moscow
"We have another tough road game ahead of us. Unicaja Malaga is very competitive in most of the games they played so far in this season. We will miss three players who are gone to play for the national team. We need to be ready and focused."

Players

DIAZ, ALBERTO
Unicaja Malaga
"We have to work hard because it's tough for us. But we must be realistic, we play against the best team in Europe. After a double-round week, the calendar will be a bit easier now, so that will help us fix some details and get ready for the future. We also need to reset and start fresh. The game with CSKA is important because we play at home and we want to change the dynamics, but they are favorite and it will be complicated."
KURBANOV, NIKITA
CSKA Moscow
"It is great that Unicaja is back to EuroLeague competition. They were always competitive, the games against Malaga were always difficult and interesting. We are looking forward to play there again and we will try hard to take the win. We will be also glad to see our friend Jimmy Augustine who is having very good season with Unicaja so far."

· James Augustine was with CSKA last season; he played under Coach Dimitris Itoudis and was a teammate of most of the CSKA current roster.

· Augustine and CSKA guard Vitaly Fridzon were also teammates at Khimki Moscow Region for the 2013-13 season.

· During the 2010-11 season, Augustine was a teammate of CSKA guard Nando De Colo at Valencia Basket.

· CSKA center Alan Makiev was a teammate of Unicaja forward Jeff Brooks at Avtodor Saratov during the 2015-16 campaign.
