James Metecan Birsen - JT Fenerbahce Ulker - Final Four Istanbul 2012Fenerbache-Ulker grabbed its first win in the 10th edition of the Nike International Junior Tournament with an 83-79 victory over Zalgiris Kaunas on Friday evening at Abdi Ipekci arena in Istanbul, Turkey. With this win FB-Ulker created a four-way tie in Group B with all four teams holding a 1-1 record. Tomorrow Zalgiris will take on KK Zagreb and FB-Ulker will face Team China in the games that will decide the qualifier from this group to the title game on Sunday. James Birsen had 23 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds for the winners followed by Umar Atin with 14, Ayberk Guleryuz and Mehmet Sanli with 11 each. Zalgiris saw Marius Grigonis collect 17 points and Rokas Gustys with 14 points. FB-Ulker took control over the game from the start and held a 28-15 lead after 10 minutes, but Grigonis carried his team to a great second quarter enough for a 43-40 FB-Ulker lead at the break. Zalgiris carried the great moment into the second half and entered the last quarter with a 56-62 lead, and already held a 58-68 advantage with 9 minutes to play yet Guleryuz and Birsen led an 13-4 run to take the lead inside the last minute and keep it until the buzzer.
